Also just remembered Propagations by Denzler/Baron/Guionnet & Rives on Potlatch - another overlooked disc of high quality.
I agree with Fear & Panic that Pollen (Wassermann/Barrett) was good too, but can't agree with your dismissal of Hum (Davies/Davis/Rebello/Saade) on another timbre, which would be one of my top five of the year. The Muta disc on Sofa was also exxcellent, but I think someone else has mentioned that somewhere above. I personally like Rhodri Davies best when he's playing with a bit of edge; much preferable to the dreamy sweetness of his solo on Confront that someone sle chose imho.

I entirely agree with you. This disc deserves to be well-known (at least here).fearandpanic wrote:Something else I think was overlooked, at least here, was Pollen by Ute Wassermann and Richard Barrett--in some ways it harks back to the voice and electronics pieces made in the Milan electronic studios by Berio and Maderna in the 50s and early 60s, but it has a more playful, dizzying and microscopic quality. There's something about the interpenetration of the human voice and electronics that can strike a particular nerve, as it does here.

yeah, I e-mailed him to ask about distributing this and the rest of edition explico, but never got an answer.fearandpanic wrote:gunter christmann et al - vario 44 (edition explico)
I wasn't sure about this one at first, especially the group pieces, but there's a few excellent trios and duos. The et al here, incidentally, is John Butcher, Thomas Lehn, Dorothea Sch?rch, John Russell and Roger Turner. For some stupid reason they only released a "limited edition" of 200 or 250 copies, so it was understandably overlooked in that sense--I don't think it was reviewed or announced anywhere that prominently either.

2007 was a great year in listening. I can't handle the finality of a numbered hierarchy, so I've compiled this list by trawling through the "Recently Added" playlist in iTunes going back exactly 12 months today. The grouping of albums below aren't all necessarily from 2007, but those that I heard in 2007. I've excluded classical recordings, but there would be a large chunk of Herreweghe Bach Cantata recordings in there if I had not.

Lionel Marchetti - Red Dust
Taku Sugimoto - Live in Kansai
Choubi Choubi! - Folk and Pop Sounds From Iraq

Amazing music, in any case, whenever it was released (I forget). Really an incredible achievement to master a kind of spontaneous twelve-tone style that manages to revive some sparks from early freely atonal music. Definitely spent a good amount of time with that one when it came out (and since.)endofanera wrote: Alexander von Schlippenbach - Twelve-Tone Tales (volumes I and II), Intakt (Last year?)
I was looking forward to this (Richard Barrett, Paul Obermayer, John Butcher, Rhodri Davies, Paul Lovens, Phil Minton, Wolfgang Mitterer, Ute Wassermann), since I like Furt; but ultimately I could never enjoy it much. Possibly it's just that it's so long and dense (concentrated), but after a great opening blast I think it runs out of steam pretty quickly, and Mitterer's piano playing just isn't that exciting (it's unfortunately a prominent feature.) The octet really does just seem like too much. There's a good, short duo of Davies's and Wassermann's (I think) harp tones and dripping voice-sounds. Maybe I'll have to come back to it later.fORCH - spin networks (Psi)

I agree it is long. I've found that breaking it down into its "bite size chunks" and approaching each of those separately has helped me. But then thats often the only way I can make some kind of sense of bigger pieces (unless I approach them as textural pieces - if that makes sense)Quote:

everyone seems to have the same malfatti disk on there list if they have one from his series on it. I remember liking it on audition but could barely here it because of noise around me. Where could a man pick up a copy of it. Am i right in assuming erstdist is sold out of them? is there a direct contact to radu?>

There are two new b-Boim releases due this week also.
