i know the blog. i tried some, and the thing is, i seem to know all the better ones: Ney Matogrosso, Marcos Valle, Jards Macal?, Dami?o Experyen?a, Walter Franco, Som Imagin?rio, Ednardo, Flaviola, Jorge Ben of course. no real discoveries here, at least for me.

I have known about this blog for a while, but been too busy to download all that stuff. So I have a lot to go through. Since it is not necessarily a priority it may take some time, but there have been a few things (some you mentioned above) that make it worth it. Either that, my materialist/collector mentality is getting the best of me.

It seems the best stuff is the oldest added too.

i'm likiong that record more the more i listen to it. it's got a lot of soft sides. merriwinkle completely blew me away from the first, and on every subsequent, listen. amazing album.

I really liked the Punkt CD too. I just dl'd it last night. really caught me off guard like you said.

nah its 6 tracks that are all relatively short sept the first one that's about 12 mins (still not too long) I never heard the other one. This one is pretty cool tho.

James Blood Ulmer - Odyssey
The really amazing guitar, violin (Charles Burnham) and drums (Warren Benbow) trio from 1983. Nothing else quite like it.

Gyorgy Ligeti - Melodien; Chamber Concerto; Piano Concerto; Mysteries of the Macabre
A collection of Ligeti's mid to late-period pieces from Teldec's abandoned Newline series: Melodien, seemingly written to annoy the languishing avant-garde of the 70s with long-forbidden melodies--though there are more exciting recordings of this piece on other discs, particularly by David Atherton and the London Sinfonietta; the late, overblown Piano Concerto (1985-88) that I have mixed feelings about (try Lachenmann's Ausklang from the same period for a much more daring revival of the genre); and the great Chamber Concerto from 1969 that I've been playing over and over recently. Fantastic "mechanical" movement and frenzied harpsichord action.

so great that those oliveros recordings are out again. people should check out the Roots of the Moment reissue that happened not long ago, as well. that's one of the best.
