After Alastair in the King Crimson thread mentioned my favorite Van Der Graaf Generator track is included on this one, I just bought it:

(Peter Hammill "Chameleon in the Shadow of the Night" - my first Hammill solo record ever)

I find the trashy version of Black Room (on V.d.G.G.'s Time Vaults) so much better (and hope there's anything else on this CD I might like... didn't check out anything else yet).

I find the trashy version of Black Room (on V.d.G.G.'s Time Vaults) so much better (and hope there's anything else on this CD I might like... didn't check out anything else yet).

There's plenty of live versions of "(In The) Black Room" on boots form 1972 and 1975/6 that perhaps have more of the intensity that I guess you're looking for. The version on "Time Vaults" is pretty low-fi but also intense. What else you might like on the CD? Don't know. It's not one of his better solo records, although "In The End" and "German Overalls" are worth listening to. The one after this, "The Silent Corner and the Empty Stage" is better, and for my money, "In Camera", the one after that, is superb. Then there's his punk record and yada yada I could go on for hours.

Anyway, I've not bought anything recently although my copy of Jon Mueller's "Metals" \m/ dropped through my letterbox just as my means to play it was taken away in a box to London docks. Glad I d/led it a while ago

I love it, absolutely. And admittedly I get very confused when it comes to labeling this stuff, ambient, electronic, processed field, so forth. I could try to make comparisons but doubtless someone here will shoot me down. It's certainly not revelatory stuff, you should see some of the statements flying around about how important it is. See that sticker on the Fennesz Live In Japan cellophane to get at what I mean. Thoroughly enjoyable disc though.

World Receiver is name-checked by this blogger who posts a nice shortwave mix in the same style.
