Some potential down time.

Post by mudd »

Hi everyone. Long time no message.

Our host is requiring an internal platform migration. I don't know how much of a pain this is going to be, or if it will be much of a pain at all. But there will probably be a bit of downtime, not exactly sure when since I'm not exactly sure what i need to do.

More to point, I downloaded the database on the 27th. I'll try to back it up again before the final event but if something goes weird we might lose a few days of posts. Hopefully not!

Well yay it's been a month and this isn't finished yet. thought it would be this weekend but the db is too large for me to transfer and i'll have to get the hosts to do it for me.

which means i've got even less control over how long it will take than usual. I'm going to aim to get it done next week. i think i will take the board down while it is underway, will see.

Welcome back, thanks Mark - though we were warned, I forgot to make a copy of those last two film review posts - I'm assuming they're lost and gone forever (are they?), so I'll try & rewrite them from memory. Cheers

I haven't posted here before - just want to say thanks for getting the site back online again. When I saw it was down the other day I was distraught! Was afraid it might be down for good, so am delighted to see everything back now. Found this place a while ago and have discovered some of my favourite music by reading through the posts you brilliant people have left :D

i could conceivably rebuild the old site and copy a couple things over manually, but if it's all the same i'd rather not. my interest now is getting surround transferred too, and then switching over the domain name. this won't have to be a series of numbers forever.

i should really only have lost a day of posts, but the support people mucked up my backup. sorry.

No worries Mark, I think I managed to repost what had been lost - hope you've managed to recover all the users (they know where to find us now? - I had to Google to find the link). Take care, all the best DW

hey everyone. there's going to be about 2 hours of downtime on the night of December 15th (Wednesday) between 8pm and 6am eastern US time. i don't know when exactly, but if you're on the site that night just give it a bit of time and try again.

in my experience the 2-hour downtimes rarely last half that long, but no promises.
