Re: You Tube
One of the great joys of being a square dance caller is learning and performing new singing calls. I think it must be similar to a cover band adding a new tune. I know for sure that it's like being a kid and playing with a new toy or a new game. Even if it doesn't have the staying power of a bicycle or chess, it's still a lot fun for the first 50 or 100 times. So these are the four singing calls I added this week (sometimes months go by where I don't add any), love all the songs, practicing and researching them, debuting them on levels from never-danced-before to high Advanced (A-2).
These are the originals: a one-hit wonder from '79, a Malvina Reynolds' lullaby from the 50s popularized by wonderful 60s group from Australia, a Creedence classic, and an old country hit that I did with another version when I was beginning caller and haven't had or done in the last 30 years (must have lost that original 45).

Dunno if Preach is still around, but this gig--including Mat Maneri (who's looking more and more like Papa Roundman), Joelle Leandre, Maggie Nicols, and Christiane Bopp-- is very nice.

Plus three requests from Saturday's gig, the first of three weddings at Stanford for Chinese graduate students I'll be working over the next month. The first two songs are new additions by groups I've never played before, the third is an oldie the millennials request a lot, by a group everybody still plays:
