Tonie Marshall, Vénus Beauté (Institut) , 1999 Here's James: http://www.frenchfilms.org/review/venus-beaute-institut-1999.html The only thing I knew about Tonie Marshall before watching this engaging and quirky comedy (stellar cast! including Ms Marshall's real life mum, Micheline Presle) was that ...

Too late to wish you a Happy New Year, Alastair (I believe you're supposed to do that in January?) though I will anyway.
Happy New Year to you too Dan. Keep up the good work.

I decided there and then that, as KRS One said later, " all sport is bullshit" :)
You like long films with complex narratives but extended periods where nothing happens? You'd love test cricket.

You can't beat a game that can be played for 30 hours over five days and still no-one wins.

Re: Recently Watched Films 2021

Did you actually see this in a real cinema, Alastair (you are still down under, aren't you? I see cinemas reopened in Australia a couple of weeks ago)? Jealous! New name for me - the only Francis Lee I've ever heard of used to play for Manchester City (showing my age here) :D Anyway, nice write-up,...

Of course the romantic aspect was completely fictionalised but was none the worse for it (although the ending was perhaps a bit predictable). Kate Winslet spends the...

Woody Allen, Match Point, 2005
This film made me very angry. If I hadn't been with friends at the Clapham cinema where I saw it, I'd have walked out.

The train trip into Paris from home every day is just over an hour long, the perfect opportunity to watch the entire Dekalog in a week - which I'm delighted to say I've done, at last. I"m just thinking of what your fellow commuters make of your morning viewing. http://euforia.tiff.gr/wp-content/upl...

That last post was very unclear. I've seen the original Rat Pack version (on TV years ago) but until a few weeks ago, none of the remakes/reboots.

Certainly is. I can remember being amazed that they remade it - and the success of it and its spinoffs, none of which I've seen, except... Through circumstances too tedious to go into here I ended up seeing "Ocean's 8" a few weeks ago - the all-female spinoff. A fun way to switch your mind off for a...

Only three points separate third from eighth in the kicktipp table - surfer looks nailed on to win but otherwise it's all to play for.

The third one was in the closing seconds, he tried to kick it into the crowd to run out the clock, but hit it wrong and it went into the goal. Geoff Hurst played for...
