Holger Hiller - "Ein Bündel Fäulnis in der Grube" (1983)

- a little too much sampler-based for my taste. In many tracks, the results of those sampling- + tweaking-procedures wear off pretty fast.
Apart from that, there's a bunch of absurd weirdo-popsongs I like a lot.

Earlier I also listened to Hiller's collaboration with Andreas Dorau, "Guten Morgen Hose" - and that one's quite brilliant

i just saw that in a local store recently. does it sound as it looks like, i.e. the first cd is good and the second is generally disposable?

I haven't listened to the second CD yet, I bought it for the performances of Spiral 1/2 and Pole, and those are worth the price of admission by themselves. I'm not that familiar with Stockhausen other than Kontakte and the Mikrophonie pieces, so these are all new to me. I'm not sure how worthwhile it would be if you were familiar with those pieces already and were buying the set just for disc 2, though. I don't have much desire to hear 22 Stockhausen trumpet pieces. It is really cheap for a 2cd set, it's less than the price of one Kairos or Mode disc. I'm very happy with it just for Disc 1, in any case, even if I never get around the other disc.

I was having a conversation about Jeph Jerman at the record store a couple of days ago and was informed that he lives in Cottonwood, and plays here in the Phoenix area quite often. I had no idea. Guess I'll have to start paying attention to live music around here again instead of just assuming that nobody interesting ever plays here.

I was having a conversation about Jeph Jerman at the record store a couple of days ago and was informed that he lives in Cottonwood, and plays here in the Phoenix area quite often. I had no idea. I am listening to the second disc of that Stockhausen now. The first two pieces (for percussion, electronics, and shortwave radios) are quite interesting, and that's about half an hour of quality material right there (in addition to the amazing first disc). The trumpet/organ pieces are not exactly disposable, but they are definitely closer to being disposable than they are to being essential, if you get my drift. So out of 140+ minutes of material, about 100 minutes of it is really top notch, not bad for 11 bucks.
