I really like Faustcoven but they're on NWN! so you must already know them. Yob work for me as well.Tanner wrote:speaking of doom, for those more knowledgable of the genre than me, what are some recommendations (I know and like the crusty stuff like Noothgrush, Eyehategod, Corrupted, burning witch etc. already)....

Cool, I know a few of those already, but I'll definitely check out Pagan Altar and Unholy (who I have seen everywhere but never listened to). I was actually just listening to Reverend Bizarre - badass.holy ghost wrote:Reverend Bizarre - Everything!
Pagan Altar - Everything!! The 'reunion' albums are top fucking notch
Unholy - From The Shadows
Thergothon - Streams From The Heavens
Mournful Congregation - Monad Of Creation, Book Of Kings, pretty much everything they've done
Evoken - Embrace The Emptiness
Disembowelment/Inverloch - all
Funeralium - top notch french shit....
Of course the accepted classics Candlemass, Trouble, Witchfinder General, blah blah blah....
Yeah, I liked what I heard of the demos. I'm looking forward to their new stuff, whenever that happens.schiksalgemeinschaft wrote:can't praise Lycus enough

Right now I love this post black metal thing, http://ellende.bandcamp.com/album/r-ckz ... erlichkeit. Superb melancholic feel, desperate vocals, acoustic interludes, sounds very good. Also waiting for the new Altar of Plagues.

Hmm. Kinda revising my thoughts on the Pallbearer. The last song sounds like a heavier Jesu with the singer affecting a sort of pinched Perry Farrell delivery. Basically, it makes me want to throw pottery from my rooftop during a parade. I still dig the first half of the album though. Can't win them all.
I've been listening to Pseudogod a lot lately. I still haven't heard the new album. I should, but I probably won't. I kind of think the early stuff is just so good at what it does that any "progression" would limit their gruesome appeal. Seriously, the dudes posed with cadavers. Jeez.

I strongly suggest you listen to it anyway, but that's me... if it's out there, I want to consume it.
And they've got a new 7" on the way, later on this year hopefully.

Yeah, I mean I probably will eventually pick it up. I just like to act as if I have willpower.
I just put in an order for a couple Mutiilation reissues, and the newish reissue of Vlad Tepes/Belkètre double lp split on Drakkar. Dodgy black metal attack. Looking forward to being mildly embarrassed when I have company over and these are out. If anyone in the States wants to pick one up they're relatively well-priced at http://store.fallenempirerecords.com/ca ... recordings

Was listening to the Vlad Tepes/Belketre album the other day, great record. The riffs are awesome. It made me go find for Mutiilation stuff I hadn't listen to before, like Sorrow Galaxies.

I can't Fucking stand that Pallbearers guys vocals.... that last track on the Loss album is totally objectionable, I haven't bothered with the actual Pallbearer album because of it. I kInd of blame Warning for this sort of thing.....
Re: the IHM metal thread
I'll give you that. I don't mind his voice in general, but again the last couple songs are pretty awful.holy ghost wrote:I can't Fucking stand that Pallbearers guys vocals.... that last track on the Loss album is totally objectionable, I haven't bothered with the actual Pallbearer album because of it. Has anyone heard the new Zuul yet?

I'm trying to resist the urge to buy the CD and wait for the diehard LP version, but will likely fail...
Re: the IHM metal thread
Dude, you should wait. IHM emotional support offered, as I'm waiting for the diehard myself.

Alright, I haven't succumbed yet, so far so good. But if that Ares Kingdom covers record comes out, watch out. Been waiting for that one for a LONG time.

Re: the IHM metal thread
In case anybody missed it: Jeff Hanneman died yesterday at 49. Liver failure.
Never cared that much for Slayer, except for Seasons In The Abyss and South Of Heaven, both of which I think are phenomenal. I can still remember seeing the clip for Seasons In The Abyss on Headbanger's Ball for the first time when I was 14 or so.

Yep, sad news. I stopped caring a lot of years ago, but I think that Reign In Blood is the record that I have played most in all my 41 years of life (my vinyl is literally destroyed), and I consider it one of the best works of rock music ever made. I still remember the exact moment when I put it on my record player for the first time.

Re: the IHM metal thread
Yeah, sad news. I think I'm on record here stating I didn't care for Slayer, but the last year I've gotten really into them, at least the early albums, especially Show No Mercy, which I love. I guess I finally gave them a chance. Anyway, agreed that the new stuff pales in comparison to the first records, and their days of glory are now sadly far behind them. They'll probably keep trudging on. Oh well.
In other news, I've really been digging the new Axis of LIght/ Death Fortress tape on Fallen Empire -- primitive but epic black metal that hits all the right buttons for me at least. Check it out.

Surprisingly, right now I'm listening to Christ Illusion for the first time, not bad. Dave Lombardo is amazing as ever.

Re: the IHM metal thread
It might not be very metal metal, but I've rediscovered Mandylion of The Gathering. 1995. Listened to it a lot back in the days, must be more than 15 years sins I've spun it. It still clicks.
Re: the IHM metal thread
The Lurkers just posted this, I'm enjoying it a lot:
Bosse-De-Nage in London
The sound quality is harsh, but it's worth a listen. Really weird clipping.
