Toshimaru Nakamura/English One Day (Erstwhile Records)

I'm I the only one that has this? I haven't really seen any discussion on it. Admittedly a bit early, I still need a few more listens myself before I have anything substantive to say, but I've not even seen it much in this thread. Let me say to anyone on the fence, that I have listened to it enough times (around 1/2 dozen I'd say) to wholeheartedly recommend it. Great work by all involved, without a doubt my favorite thing with Toshimaru Nakamura on it in a while and English seems better then ever, maturing and deepening. Anyway I'll try to say more in a while, but this to me is the best thing in this area I've heard this year.
I've only just placed my order for this one but am looking forward to it immensely. I've become an enormous English fan in the last couple of years so it's great to read that they're still on the money.

Playing, Aretha Franklin, I Never Loved a Man the Way I Love You.

The horn section on this sounds mysteriously amazing. Great organ and piano arrangement on the title tune.
Damn straight Culture Club!
The fuck? Am I supposed to be ashamed because I adore Boy George and the music his band made in the early 80s?

Slight correction - War is Stupid was from another record ...

the packaging throughout is great
I've only made it through once as well and my thoughts are nearly identical to Richard's. It sounded good, but wasn't quite what I was expecting. I'm looking forward to spending more time with it.

Lambkin/Lescalleet - The Breadwinner
This one on the other hand has completely bowled me over. Just amazing, easily a top record so far this year and probably one of my favorite ersts in all honesty. Really incredible.

Archie Shepp - Four for Trane (1964)

Shepp (tenor); John Tchicai (alto); Alan Shorter (trumpet); Roswell Rudd (trombone); Reggie Workman (bass); Charles Moffett (drums)

Four great arrangements of Coltrane's tunes (mostly from Giant Steps) for an expanded group, plus one original. Great liner notes by LeRoi Jones.

I couldn't afford it but couldn't resist it either so I'm awaiting it with baited breath. Glad to hear a nice account.

I have to admit that disc 2 is the best (at least for me). The other contain (among few highlights) some weaker tracks. I suppose it could be a magnificent two disc set.
