Yeah, I ordered a few things from him a couple of weeks ago. It's really bloody great by the way, simple, patient and unpretentious as you'd expect, best printed tape inlay I've ever seen to boot, done by the same folk that do the winds measure sleeves.

Bruckner Symphony No. 8, the Sergiù Celibidache/Münchner Philharmoniker version.

This is incredibly good. Michael Pisaro recommended it to Richard Pinnell in the comments to Richard's great Schubert Quintet blog post the other day. I shamelessly stole the recommendation and am happy I did.

I'm guessing this will be the first of many, many listens. Really interesting music, and probably a new standard for solo piano music (in my collection at least).

Very relaxing first listen this morning... I actually like how the vocals are so much louder - gives that "is it the music or my immediate environment" effect that can be so bewildering and delightful, and that while all of us have had a handful of experiences with, I'm sure this album will bring this effect to an entirely new crowd....
...that was earlier, listening at 'regular' volume, BTW...
Relistening now at some considerable volume, enough to bring the instrumental parts into clarity... excellent playing on everyone's parts here, the 'chamber music' idea comes through loud and clear (at this volume only, mind)...

The lyrics sometimes refer back to the (making of the) album in an extremely awkward way... but when I think about "late night shopping", which I also found awkward lyrically, I realize that there's something perhaps a bit brave about not being all lofty all the time... this said, I listen to precious little vocal driven music, and have little to compare the lyrics to... THIS said, the term "precious little" gives me shivers of disgust, I don't know why I used it.

I made the coffee too strong this morning, good thing this is such a mellow album.

dunno if you're listening to MP3s or the CD, but I found that the balance between vocals and music was a bit better on the actual CD (which I got earlier today).

came into this with pretty low expectations and average anticipation. the first few tracks impressed me a bit, but it kinda went downhill from there. Sylvian's voice is nice but I just don't feel like the singing works that well with the background music. His lyrics are pretty good too, wouldn't have minded if he just released it as a book of poetry/prose or something that went alongside the music, just not mixed with it! sometimes it seemed like the music went one direction, and his singing went another direction.
