For the record, I "had to leave" because of a prior commitment, I really wanted to check out the boogie.

read a bit of John Fahey's 'How Bluegrass Destroyed My Life' - the chapter that basically makes fun of Henry Vestine, guitarist of Canned Heat, for finding his muse in "plasticity" as opposed to the earthy musics that Fahey liked (country blues, bluegrass).

took nap.

put on the Canned Heat 'Boogie With Canned Heat' LP that I hadn't listened to in a while. The last thing on the album is someone exclaiming "Don't Forget to Boogie"

remembered that I still didn't have Tetuzi's boogie stuff. Found THE boogie on slsk.

played the boogie, jammed along for a bit on drums.

my boogie life.

actually, i think it started on the 13th? in montreal.

tetuzi played a wonderful, mind bending duo with martin tetreault.
they were both amazing.

actually, all the sets were amazing.

epic night, imho.

it was a little hot in that room with all those people there, but i guess
that's
summertime humidity for you.

i look foreward to (hopefully) hearing some audio documentation..

crazy, perhaps i don't go see that many shows, or maybe there simply are not
enough quality improvised music shows around these parts to satisfy the need
for
them, but geez, i hadn't felt that much joy attending an improvised music
concert in almost a year.
..,.oh man..,,.speaking of which, i can't wait for earstquake.

at any rate,

i'm an idiot: heard about akiyama for ages, never really bothered to follow up, missed the nyc shows because i forget about them, finally now picked up pre-existence & had my mind totally blown. how did i miss out on him for so long? past few days i tried to acquire as much purchased & d/led material as i could find: all of it is incredibly strong. relator + resophonie in particular i've found stunning.

the boogie material i'm not sure i'm totally sold on: sounds nice and all, but he doesn't seem to be stretching very much as compared to his pretty radical approach to the acoustic guitar. kinda get some unpleasant stuck-in-the-sam-ash-guitar-department vibe at times. seems more interesting contextually in relation to his other work, but maybe i just need to listen more.

anyways, enough rambling: my question is, are there any plans for the release of any recordings of these shows?

yes, i'm going to be putting out a cd compiled from this tour once tetuzi gets back to japan and picks out some of the best material.

jab: Indeed the Canadian leg of the tour did begin on the 13th. Thanks for the kind words about the show. I was quite happy with how everything turned out. The heat was intense, but so was the music. There was a thick, almost tangible atmosphere in the room when Akiyama and Tetreault performed. Pure magic.

We captured some very, very nice recordings of the set. Expect to see and hear more like this in the future. Also, by the end of the summer I hope to have the first round of CDs documenting selected shows at Detention studio available, (including the set by Akiyama + Tetreault). I thought the boogie stuff was fucking brilliant. First set was good, too, but in a bar setting it wasn't very effective. I've been kicking myself for not buying a CD. I noticed the CD jon linked to had relatively short track lengths. Is there a boogie CD with extended length pieces like he was doing live?

so last night was THE last night of the tour, in NEw Orleans. I helped record it and I'm supposing a cdr will get sent to Tetuzi soon.

He played some solo boogie as well as with Donald Miller and Rob Cambre and they played short solos as well. Then in duos and all together for a composed piece. I'd been looking forward to hearing him play with Donald and it was a good set - controlled feedback and high pitched harmonics with buzzy drones.

A fine night. Nice to meet Tetuzi as well.
