I always forget about this album, considering it's so long I hardly ever have the patience to get through the entire thing. It is a great album though.
track four is simply amazing.

ape is pretty good, but theres some filler tracks and things necessarily feel a bit unfinished. balance's vocals sound a bit disinterested on some tracks, he prbly wouldn't've used a lot of those vocal takes if he'd had the chance. the version of "cold cell" was kinda disappointing to me, considering the previous takes on that song were some of my favorite coil music. but "fire of the mind", "tattooed man," "amber rain" are totally brilliant.

ambulance just seemed more consistent to me, totally into that one.

man i love circle... saw them this summer opening for merzbow and they were so so so so so much better.

Singer had a goatee and wore a black beret, sunglasses, wifebeater and suspenders and was just totally in control, the bassist was this huge metal dude with long hair who was smiling and sort of headbanging and doing the weird like throat singing in the made up language thing, and then the drummer was dressed in black and looked like the creepy video artist from the big lebowski and just sat motionless at his kit while playing motorik beats.

I was grinning uncontrollably the whole time.

yes. i went to see them live on cmj. i wasnt really a fan, just heard some stuff. they mostly played stuff from their latest, and finished with Nopeuskuningas. hard rocking motorik craziness + long jamming. mika ratto is like lenin on speed. awesome show. i love them now.
I was going to be a neo-deconstructivist but mom wouldn't let me.

Most Listened to 2005... in no particular order

Mark Wastell - Vibra #2
Akiyama/Muller – Points and Slashes
4g – Cloud
Otomo/Sachiko M/Fennesz/Rehberg – ErstLive004
Bloc Party - Silent Alarm
John Tilbury – Barcelona
Sage Francis - A Healthy Distrust
Otomo Yoshihide's New Jazz Orchestra--S/T
Taku Sugimoto - Live in Australia
The Sealed Knot – Unwanted Object
Tomas Korber – Effacement
M.I.A. – Arular
Greg Kelley: I Don't Want To Live Forever
Julien Ottavi/Dion Workman – Misenlian
Art Brut - Bang Bang Rock & Roll

.....And no I haven't forgotten neither Sean Meehan's solo nor ErstLive 005, it's just that I still don't feel like I've given them enough attention (having received the Erstwhile this morning by post from Mark  , it's about time I know...) The Meehan is a great piece of work though, but diserve a lot more spins.

Excuse me, but what do you think interesting in Live in Australia ? The sound is not good (like it was recorded in mini disc) and we only ear the audience. It's like having a bar in the home.

The second disc is quite nice. Besides Mr. Sugimoto's guitar, you can hardly hear anything except the odd cough or chair creak, plus the hum of what sounds like passing cars outside the venue(?)

Well I'm guessing this comment can be made after having given a quick listen to the album, but I can assure you that there's a lot more to it than creaking chairs and beer bottles. I found it amazingly ear-opening and being a wonderful field recording.

However, you don't seem to be that much into eai (or Taomud or whatever you want to call it) which might result to some lack of ear training to be able to dive into Sugimoto's already Spartan universe.

Give it another spin before New Year's eve.... You never know.

I don't feel like making a full list as the majority of my favorites this year have been mentioned repeatedly. However, I will mention a few that haven't, to my knowledge, been brought up so far:

Sawako - Hum. Just a lovely warm record, perhaps nothing particularly special about it in terms of breaking new ground, but what it does, it does wonderfully.

The Hafler Trio - Exactly as I Do. Certainly the best in the 'Sanskrit Voice' series, or whatever, so far and probably the most interesting use of Jónsi Birgisson voice since Ágætis Byrjun.

Choubi Choubi! Folk and Pop Sounds from Iraq - Perhaps not strictly applicable as the contents of the compilation are not exactly new for 2005, but I seriously doubt that the vast majority of the people listening to it would have heard anything on it before. This is probably the most consistently brilliant of Sublime Frequencies releases for me and the one I return to most often.

Sure, I have not spent so much time listening to this disc.

It's not that I don't like eai (I have organized several concert of eai since 5 years, I go to the main festivals in France, ...), but at the moment, I'm a little bit skeptical about that. For me, it goes nowhere.
But about Sugimoto, I think that I'm much interested in Opposite or Italia.

Interesting. Can I ask you which concerts you did organize? and whereabout in France?

Opposite and Italia are amazing records, still some of my favourites in my collection, but Mr Sugimoto has taken another path since then...

Nice. Choubi Choubi! is definitely one of my favorite SF's so far. Haven't heard that Hafler Trio yet, the only 2005 Hafler I've heard is the EP which I really dig. Sawako didn't impress me too much, but it has a cozy feeling to it.

Which one? Á ég að halda áfram? or Being a Firefighter Isn't Just About Squirting Water? He's been releasing things like crazy lately, thank god for those reissues on Korm Plastics though.

Á ég að halda áfram, sorry. Been digging a large portion of his catalogue via soulseek, but dude really makes me want to track down every last one of his records (physically). Brilliant stuff.

Edit: I guess the collab with Autechre is '05, too.
