Tell me about your favorite "guitar" albums

for some reason the first one that comes to mind is the last fire show album, i love that guitar sound. dark & edgy, experimental but still very hard rock, it's just a vicious sound. listen to "godforsaken angels of epistemology" and you'll know what i mean.

it's not bad, I haven't heard it in a while, but you hit my two faves from those guys with opposite and relator. on italia, as I recall, there are a couple of mildly raucous stretches, which I thought broke the mood to little effect. it's way out of print, though, so if you see a copy floating around, I'd grab it.

My Bloody Valentine, Loveless is my favourite guitar album. Despite its nearly anti-guitar stance, I find the playing just as enthralling as something way more technical.

real good one. young has a great guitar sound in general, & this is maybe his only album where you get to enjoy it purely on its own, set free to roam without boundaries, and without the threat of a wanky solo ('cos it's allllllllllllllllllll wanky solos on this one )

I've only heard Dead Man once, and as I recall, the snippets of dialogue were pretty annoying. my favorite unfettered Neil playing is on Weld (still within the context of songs, but the solos are pretty damn free at times).

I wouldn't even know where to begin listing my favorite guitar records, there are hundreds in wildly different styles that I think are great.

maybe it's just cos i like the movie so much that the dialogue doesn't bother me, seems to add to the general mood. weld is real good too.

As far as solo guitar albums go...I just bought them recently, but Robbie Basho - Bashovia and Leo Kottke - 6 and 12 String Guitars are on their way to becomming all-time favs.

If you're talking "guitar albums" within the context of a band, some favorites are:

I really like Tim Rutli's electric and acoustic guitar playing. There are some especially inspirational parts on Quicksand/Cradlesnakes.

Tisziji Munoz Spirit World is pretty awesome. He has a mini-tour going right now with Bob Moses and Don Pate. Some shows will also include Ravi Coltrane, Rasheid Ali, Cecil McBee, Paul Shaffer.

Junk Genius Ghost of Electricity is great as well.

The Return of Tal Farlow is a good one too.

I don't think any of these are my favorite though. I'm inclined to say Nick Drake Five Leaves Left. Too difficult to choose a Hendrix album. I read elsewhere that Zeppelin sucks, so I'm not going to officially list the first album.
