Re: NFL 2015
They're already talking about Chip Kelly resurrecting Colin Kaepernick's career. If so, it's gonna be looong season.

Re: NFL 2015
I wouldn't be shocked if Gabbert is the starter next season. He would be a better fit for Kelly's system.
Re: NFL 2015
Bradford is a FA too, right? might they release Kaepernick and go with Bradford again? (not that that worked very well the first time)
Re: NFL 2015
Anything is possible, but I'd rather take a chance on Kaepernick or Gabbert than Bradford. I think it's safe to say we know what Bradford is. If he was going to break out, it would have been under Kelly. Instead, he looked like the same Sam Bradford we've seen for years. He's the new Rick Mirer.
Now, if you really want to get into deeper speculation, what about RGIII to San Fran?

I don't think Kelly wants a QB with a poor work ethic.Mo Noyz wrote:Anything is possible, but I'd rather take a chance on Kaepernick or Gabbert than Bradford. Re: NFL 2015
I'm pretty sure Kelly believes he's a god who can magically transform any player. That's the only thing that explains his trading for Bradford last year. And RGIII still remains enough of a mystery for folks to take a chance on him.
Re: NFL 2015
Bradford was much better than Foles post-trade. Bradford was actually an above average starter when one considers the deterioration in the Philly OL and receivers corp.Mo Noyz wrote:I'm pretty sure Kelly believes he's a god who can magically transform any player. Kelly is a very demanding coach. RGIII isn't motivated to put in the work to be successful and his rep is that he's full of himself. That's not Chip Kelly's type of player. \
I don't know if Chip can turn around the Niners but it's not a bad hire because he definitely won't have any GM duties.

Kaepernick's gear has been moved from the discount rack back to retail at the 49ers store -- make what you will of it:

Re: NFL 2015
Right, he was essentially the 2010 Sam Bradford all over again. I thought he had serious potential when the Rams drafted him. But I've seen enough to join the "Sam Bradford isn't the answer" club, which I fought against for years. And honestly, comparing Bradford's numbers under Kelly with Foles number under Fisher? C'mon, man. You know better than that...The G Man wrote:Bradford was much better than Foles post-trade. And while I agree with every point you're making about the RGIII/Kelly dynamic, I counter with the one thing Chip Kelly wants more than anything else: to win. He and Baalke could look at RGIII and see a really inexpensive, and still potential superstar athlete and figure "why the fuck not?" If they think there's even a 1% chance of turning him back into what most thought he'd be, they may just give it a shot. Why wouldn't they? If it doesn't work out, he'll be gone before the preseason concludes.
Not to mention that a camp with those three QBs battling it out for the top job almost lends a sense of relevancy back to the 49ers. Two fallen superstars and a head coach with a chance at redemption?

This story confirms that Coughlin turned down the Eagles after the Giants hired McAdoo and retained Coughlin's staff.
Bradford was better for Kelly in 2015 than Foles was in 2014 and Foles had Todd Herremans and Evan Mathis whereas Bradford did not.

Re: NFL 2015
So Philbin is coming in as QB coach and asst. head coach but not as the OC. That will be Mike Sullivan, who get bumped up from QB coach.
Re: NFL 2015
Foles started 8 whole games in 2014! And damn near threw as many touchdowns as Bradford did starting 14 games last season. Jesus, dude. Make a more relevant argument.
Re: NFL 2015
Antonio Brown ruled out for the game Sunday.
That should be the end of the season for Pittsburgh.

Re: NFL 2015
Now Philbin is going to be OL coach with Indy. I didn't like him anyway.

Re: NFL 2015
Is it now clear that Rothlisberger will start? His sub is supposed to represent a 5 pt downgrade. BTW, one Vegas maven said that Manning represents a 3 pt upgrade from Osweiler. (I agree with both of those, FWIW.)The G Man wrote:Opening line was Denver -2, now 7.5, huge shift.Mo Noyz wrote:Antonio Brown ruled out for the game Sunday.

Anyhow, it's not just Brown affecting the line, I don't think. (But Burfect should go to jail.)

Re: NFL 2015
kind of crazy/cool that all four games pit a QB who was the #1 overall pick against a QB who has won at least one Super Bowl.
