NBA Offseason 2015

Knicks sign a FA! Arron Affalo, who had a bad season last year but will probably be the starting SG.
JR may have been JR stupid by opting out. He has no suitors and Cleveland's tax bill will be >$40M when they sign Delly or a substitute. If Gilbert says JR, take a walk, does Smith go back to China?

JR's future was probably hurt more than anybody's by the injuries to Kyrie and Love. The random nature of his points explosions was exposed when there's a steady need for them. Too bad for him because he had an excellent regular season.

Great trade by Philly. Sacramento is an awful organization, joining the Knicks, Nets, Lakers and Hornets. The Hornets are the worst if they really turned down four #1's and two #2's from Ainge to pick Kaminsky.

MJ is a complete disaster in the front office.

Re: NBA Offseason 2015
Spurs signed Danny Green for only $1M/year more than Cleveland signed Shumpert. Green is a much better shooter; both are good defensively.
Re: NBA Offseason 2015
FWIW, I kind of like Kaminsky, though he might have gone a couple of picks high for my taste. OTOH, I wasn't surprised to see Dekker drop as far as he did. Is he really the shooter Chandler Parsons is?The G Man wrote:Great trade by Philly. Sacramento is an awful organization, joining the Knicks, Nets, Lakers and Hornets. The Sixers should sign Jeremy Lin to a cheap contract. He's better than anybody PG they have and I haven't heard of much interest for him.

There's some talk about Lin on the Dubs' boards. He has cult following out here, his abilities might mesh well with the team, and Lacob said in 12/14 that losing Lin was his biggest regret:The G Man wrote:The Sixers should sign Jeremy Lin to a cheap contract. >> Jeremy Lin was a guy that grew up on the Peninsula playing basketball with my son, actually.
I knew him really well and we wound up bringing him in, signing him to a contract, even though he wasn’t drafted....
I had a coaching staff that didn’t really use him and didn’t see what we saw and he wound up going somewhere else and becoming Jeremy Lin. That’s a little bit of a regret that I didn’t trust my own gut just a little bit stronger when it came down to the decision. It was complicated and there were trade-offs. It’s like anything else and I can’t get into what those trade-offs were, but there were.
You know, you hate to see something get away. What I hate more than anything else in the world for our business is to develop assets and then let them go somehow or have to let them go, because you have only so many resources.<<

Re: NBA Offseason 2015
Jeremy Lin had one twenty game stretch in his career where he was any good (admittedly he was really good), and that was a perfect storm of D'Antoni and his system and every other high usage player on NY hurt. he has been close to unplayable ever since, one reason is that the style that worked for him at that time was unsustainable, as it involved very funky shot fakes that ended with him getting fouled very hard by the big man who he had tricked into leaving his feet. obviously that's going to lead to injuries. he's tried to change that since leaving NY as best I can tell, but it's what made him effective so kind of a catch-22.
also he isn't a distributing PG, he is a high usage guy, like a worse version of Barbosa or something. I can't believe GS (or most other teams) would have much use for him, he's like a 10th or 11th guy and if you're playing him big minutes, something has gone wrong with your team.

Re: NBA Offseason 2015
I'd give you Lin for a rack of basketballs and a stack of towels.
Re: NBA Offseason 2015
Lin improved his 3PT shooting to a career high 37% last year, his FT rate was the highest since his Knick stint and his PER was 15.6. I'm not saying that's good but better than Tony Wroten. His usage as a Knick was 28, but only 22 on the Lakers minus Kobe, so he's not that type of guy anymore.jon abbey wrote:Jeremy Lin had one twenty game stretch in his career where he was any good (admittedly he was really good), and that was a perfect storm of D'Antoni and his system and every other high usage player on NY hurt. he has been close to unplayable ever since, one reason is that the style that worked for him at that time was unsustainable, as it involved very funky shot fakes that ended with him getting fouled very hard by the big man who he had tricked into leaving his feet. obviously that's going to lead to injuries. he's tried to change that since leaving NY as best I can tell, but it's what made him effective so kind of a catch-22.

Re: NBA Offseason 2015
I think he has a cult following wherever there's a significant east Asian population. The year that Linsanity started that jon was talking about, somebody gave me some ticks to a Cavs game against the Knicks. Lin was injured for that game but the number of east Asians in the crowd who'd snagged tickets in advance was huge; far greater than at any other sporting event I'd seen. It was also when the Cavs were lottery eligible so the amount of available seats was very accommodating for anyone wanting them. To further buttress jon's point, even as bad as the Cavs were they won the game handily iirc.SqDanceCallingSteve wrote:There's some talk about Lin on the Dubs' boards. He has cult following out here

Re: NBA Offseason 2015
maybe, but the entire Laker season was garbage time last year, so hard to take any numbers compiled there too seriously. I'm not saying he's not a NBA player, but I'm not sure he's a rotation guy on a playoff team. The G Man wrote:Lin improved his 3PT shooting to a career high 37% last year, his FT rate was the highest since his Knick stint and his PER was 15.6. Re: NBA Offseason 2015
Phoenix moved some guys to Detroit to clear cap room, they can now sign Aldridge without a sign and trade.

I find myself agreeing with Windhorst. The problem is even bigger than just nobody wanting to play with The Sociopath under Byron's awful pornstache. Hopefully they'll get KB off the books, and revise the presentation process with next year's free agents. Maybe by then Jimmy Buss will realize he really just wants to gamble at the horse track and let Jeannie run the show instead.

Cleveland's penalty tax for being over the cap could reach historic proportions.

Re: NBA Offseason 2015
Wesley Matthews to Dallas, Robin Lopez to NY, very curious to see what Portland ends up looking like next year.
West playoff teams as of now IMO (this is a little silly pending Aldridge and Jordan, but what the hell):
GS
SA
LAC
HOU
OKC
MEM
so that's six, maybe NO? maybe PHX if they get Aldridge? maybe DAL if they get Jordan? people seem to like UTH also.

If Jordan leaves the Clips, I think they're lottery bound.
DLee likely to wind up with the Knick or Lakers.

Re: NBA Offseason 2015
Portland has lost five of their top six scorers from last year (assuming Aldridge is gone), everyone but Lillard:
Aldridge
Batum
Matthews
Afflalo
Lopez
maybe I'm missing people, but their current team seems to be:
Kaman
Plumlee
Gerald Henderson
CJ McCollum (who was great in the last few playoff games against MEM, averaging 26 PPG in the final three games including 7 3s in their elimination game)
Lillard
Ed Davis
Vonleh
Meyers Leonard
I don't think that's close to a playoff team in the West.

not the Knicks, they have no cap space after Afflalo and Lopez.SqDanceCallingSteve wrote:DLee likely to wind up with the Knick or Lakers.
