Beans can get a little wordy... enough to where it ruins the flow for me, packing too many syllables over the beat.

It'a absolutely staggering, one of my favorite collections of music by anyone ever, but choosing between this and Santa Cruz as my overall favorite is very difficult. This is PRE wrote:Still my favorite Braxton.dialectics of shit wrote:

Re: Now Playing
This should have been rereleased ages ago. I believe it is on HatHut's roster, getting it as soon as it is available again. (Same goes for Santa Cruz now that I think of it.)dialectics of shit wrote:It'a absolutely staggering, one of my favorite collections of music by anyone ever, but choosing between this and Santa Cruz as my overall favorite is very difficult. This is PRE wrote:Still my favorite Braxton.dialectics of shit wrote:
On a sidenote, my Braxton favorites are:
Eight (+3) Tristano compositions 1989
Seven Compostions (Trio) 1989
Quartet (Dortmund) 1976
New York, Fall 1976
The Montreux / Berlin Concerts
his 2 albums with Max Roach
Wesleyan (12 Altosolos) 1992
Six Monk's compostions (1986)
the three "23, 20 and 19 Standards (Quartet) 2003" 4cd-albums (what a massive LEO release that was, 12 cds)
with the creative Jazz Orchestra Composition 175 & Comp. 125 (2005)
Sextet (Victoriaville) 2005
Quintet (London) 2004
That's a lot, but it's a lot to choose from, so...
I've been a Braxton completionist for a couple of years, but stopped paying attention somewhere in 2007-2008. But, since he'll be in town, I'm going to see his Trio next week with Taylor Ho Bynum and Mary Halvorson.

buy this, you will not be disappointed
best single disc of frey's music i've heard (and that's most of them, although "instruments, field recordings, counterpoints" is up there too)
stunning, gorgeous, singular

Beethoven, the late string quartets, back to back (Gewandhaus Quartett).
The gift that keeps on giving.
