Re: Now Playing
Yes, I think that Liebner has the benefit of working with a finished line of history, while Tudor was part of this history. One of the things I like the most about this new recording is how it seems to encompass all of the threads in Cage´s career, every aspect of his musical thinking is here. A musical biography with the piano as narrator.
Re: Now Playing
ray russell shines on this. nice recording/mix, all around

Re: Now Playing
Funny, I'm currently listening to Banco as well, only a different album, Io Sono Nato Libero.

I just moved to Darwin. Io sono nato libero will be the next one. After the recent death of Francesco Di Maggio I'm rediscovering this band and other italian progressive bands like PFM, Balletto di Bronzo, Picchio dal Pozzo, Le Orme,...

Re: Now Playing
I've never heard any Banco. Where should I start, gentlemen?
I still have a soft spot for PFM's early Italian-language LPs and I like Area but that's as far as I go with Italian prog.

The first three albums. I don't think there's much more that is really worth listening after that.Alastair wrote:I've never heard any Banco. Where should I start, gentlemen?

Re: Now Playing
I think it's safe to say that if you enjoy those first three PFM you'll also enjoy those first three Banco del Mutuo Socorso. A main difference between both bands is that Banco had a powerful tenor as a frontman, while PFM were much more modest in that department.
Re: Now Playing
Thanks for the Banco suggestions, I wil check them out.
Your comment about PFM's more modest singing abilities made me laugh, Gil. They got a pretty strong singer in by the time of "Chocolate Kings" IIRC but they had gone pretty bad by then.
In my review of which Italian prog bands I like I forgot that I absolutely LOVE Stormy Six.

Re: Now Playing
the above made me unearth Fabrizio De Andrè - Storia di un impiegato.
De Andrè was not prog but did a few concept albums in the early 70s and this is probably his best.
(full album is on the tube. it's worth a listen)

Very, very good. Early favorite for this year's best.

i like this a but I've definitely heard better from of these musicians. except for Brandlmayr who i haven't really encountered much.
still, i don't see it mentioned ever, and it is worth listening through if you're into this stuff.
love this disc. the whole thing. studio and live parts.
there was a mention when Neos released it 2 or 3 yrs ago.

despite the hyperbolic tone, i'm on board with this enthusiasm for the record.. it's well-stirring and enveloping (even in mp3 form), been playing it nonstop.

Annette Krebs/rush! (another timbre)
Enjoying it very much. As Brian O. points out, this sounds like a definitive statement. Haven´t been able to connect with the Kesten & Trayle in the same way yet so I´m listening them as separate pieces, scheduling another listening session for it later on.

Glad you're enjoying 'rush!', Gil. I find it riveting. One of those which I only had to listen to once to know that I wanted to release it.
