Me too. I've been resistant, even though I liked "I Don't Like" there's all the stuff external to the music that is very problematic to me, but "Love Sosa" and "They Know" are undeniable.

I wonder who wrote it. However you feel about it, at the least it addresses the stickiness of white appreciation of hip-hop, a topic not usually addressed, maybe because so many of the high-profile rap writers are white.

Still digesting it, but "Cement Shoes" is looking to be my favorite track off this.

On a slightly related note, I was watching Hustle & Flow the other day on cable, and there's a scene where Terrance Howard hands Ludacris' character his first tape. Ludacris asks, all shocked, "Where'd you get this, I don't even have a copy of this anymore?!", and I yelled at the screen "ON THE INTERNET!".

I'm surprised by the praise Killer Mike and El-P are getting this year. The former was really one-dimensional and the latter was in no-flow teen angst mode for the second half of Cancer for Cure. The Full Retard is one of the best tunes he's done, mind.

Absolute must-read for rap fans and non-rap fans alike who want to understand what's been happening with respect to race and the music crit coverage of rap music: A Word on Chief Keef, Race & Hip-Hop Journalism.

This is an excellent piece that deserves to be read although some of the details might not be understood if you haven't been closely following this stuff. Not many could pull this off without resorting to a bunch of straw men in order to justify their position. Craig Jenkins, y'all. Hats off.

Thought I'd pass along one of my all-time fav hip-hop tapes, Lady Bee's Strictly For That Nigga (you can find it in pieces around YouTube, this is the first track). Seems like this board would really dig it, sometimes I'm reminded of the best moments of Screw or UGK in terms of quality. Does gritty memphis rap better than even Three 6 Mafia, and actually precedes any of their really good stuff. Online information about the group is scattered at best - know they're made up of two guys and a girl out of Memphis, but that's it.
