I've purposely disregarded any "classical" recordings as my favorites of those would constitute a list of at least 50.

what do you mean by this? about half of your list looks like classical music to me.

I was thinking of music from the Medieval through the Romantic period (i.e., what is typically categorized as "classical").

In my book (fond memories of music school..) Classical refers to ca.1750 - 1820 (Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven.. cf Charles Rosen's The Classical Style), as opposed to Baroque (before) and Romantic (after). But I see what Jason means. Nice list, that, too.

Actually, 300 would be too much, I think. Even at 100 I think you would start to see some dilution.
