Re: Rap Music
DJ Paul's new tape is pretty great (here's a mediafire link: http://www.mediafire.com/?l3ohw428347xsgq). Neither of Juicy J's recent tapes with Lex Luger really grabbed me the way Pray For Forgiveness does, although Paul raps about basically the same things Juice does and Lil Lody's production isn't that different than Luger's. Ya Boy, who's from the Bay, I geuss, and a protege of San Quinn, is pretty good on here, too. I just wish there was more tracks with Lil Wyte.
Re: Rap Music
This thread is mostly new stuff discussion but I want to say I've been rocking this album pretty hard lately:

Solid comp of Drumma Boy productions, no shout outs. Really impressive so far, I think he's really tuned up his craft.

Re: Rap Music
Young Buck did a tape with Drumma Boy you might want to check out. It was called Back On My Buck Shit Volume 2 (http://www.datpiff.com/Young-Buck-Back- ... 64907.html). The best track on there, to my ears, is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TF8-oX3l59s.Joda wrote:Really impressive so far, I think he's really tuned up his craft.
Re: Rap Music
Sick. Thanks for the tip, I overlooked that tape at the time it dropped. Love that slow, oozing bass throb that underpins most of his tracks. Refreshing, in the wake of (southern) hip hop production in 2011, which consists mostly of second rate Lex Luger rip-offs.hnismokehash wrote:Young Buck did a tape with Drumma Boy you might want to check out. Re: Rap Music

Alley Boy - Definition Of F#ck Sh*t PT 2 is the best rap album I've heard so far this year. I was a little disappointed w/ his previous tape (Purgatory) but this time around he sounds very inspired and seems to have really put a lot thought into the sequencing, features, beat selection, etc. - everything is on point and every song bumps hard (if you like gangsta rap + crazy synth laden beatscapes).
edit: Alley Boy Interview (7/28/11) speaks on select tracks from DOFS 2, Tupac, Gibbs, Krit, Trae, Pimp C & more

apparently the comments point out that it's not the real ghostface who wrote the review, but some named Big Ghost. Huh.

Re: Rap Music
Somehow I feel like Max B is a good transition between Trouble and ASAP Rocky. The real videos (Max B's isn't) are nice visually.
Jeez I feel like a hipster for posting ASAP Rocky but I really like how his music synthesizes things I like about southern and NY rap. Also, what's with all the bells? Then again, bells are so rap music (Bob James' Mardis Gras break).. also, I was listening to Slick Rick recently and noticed all the synth bells, so.. it's a tradition. Rock the bells. RZA would agree.

Re: Rap Music
Shady Nate's new album Still Based On A True Story is pretty great. Its a little heavier on the features than Based On A True Story was, but it comes packaged with that album anyways, so that isn't that big a deal. There's a smoothness to Nate's flow that combines really well with the DJ Fresh/Whole Shebang production, just like it did on the original BOAT. Both albums are on this whole futuristic disco trip thats really groovey. I've dug a couple of his other projects, The Bo-Fessional was pretty good, but all of the mixtapes/street albums of his are chock full of features, which kinda detracts from the whole thing for me, 'cause Nate can carry a song by himself, hook and everything.

Re: Rap Music
I'd love more like this. Anyone have suggestions? and, surprisingly, I like a lot of the Lil B I've heard. No idea what "Post-Lil-Wayne" means, but I like it a hell of a lot better than Lil Wayne.niwi wrote:line wrote:Dude, this is nice.sound plague wrote:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c53H-IPU02k
yeah, that's a good one. very effective and nicely shot video, too.

Hoi
Re: Rap Music
(I assume) 'hard in the paint' is a brag referring to how expensive and well presented one's paint job is on their car, a regular topic and symbol of status in southern rap. Paul Wall has a line where he says: "boys water down their paint to make they confidence rise" - implying that those without as much riches as he has do not have as bright and colourful a paint job.
