After those resonnant currents I felt like something more tumultuous and claustrophobic so put on this one:

Both are great.

Listening to the Uchida because it was readily available.

Very different from Kempff.

Not sure which I like better yet. I know the Kempff well.

Will look for the others.

Again, thank you.

Kyle Gann's Long Night for three pianos. Beautiful and minimal music...

I'm pretty new to this area of music. this one is hard to get a grasp on.
Stick with it.

What're you finding hard to grasp? Interested.
yeah, i think this is one of the more accessible ones (and really really good too!) the great recordings always take some time to sink in, i think.

if I had to point to one title that hooked me onto EAI or whatever you want to call "this area of music", it would be "Points & Slashes" by Tetuzi Akiyama and Gunter Muller. I'm going to put that one on now to make it pertinent to this thread... :)

Jindo Folk Songs • Jindo Intangible Culture Art Series 6

Stumbled on this CD today in a pile of semi unpacked luggage. Brought back from a recent trip to Jindo. Contains some wonderful performances of Jindo-centric Tongsok Minyo followed by some more Tosok selections with call and response led by Pak Dong-mae whose mother was the great Jindo vocalist Jo Gong-rye. There are some really nice voices on here. Ji Seon-hwa, Heo Jeong-seung, So Min-yeong, Lee Ji-suk. Makes me wish I had vols. 1-5.

First listen, so far seems like this CD has plenty of spiritually brown & green unpasteurized happiness.

I can't really say. there is just a lot going on. I think I am looking for something more subdued.

do you like the piano playing? Tilbury is eminently listenable but that album is a big challenge upon his skills. Try Tilbury with Marcus Schmickler on "Variety" for a way more approachable record... of course there are a million others.

recent listening..,

Ween - Pure Guava
Ween - Friends EP
Andrew Hill - Grass Roots
Greg Kelley - Self-Hate Index
Ami Yoshida & Toshimaru Nakamura - Soba To Bara
Michael Pisaro & Taku Sugimoto - 2 seconds/b minor/wave
Michael Pisaro - An Unrhymed Chord (for 25 acoustic guitars) [at the same time as "wave" from above]
Arise Therefore
PJ Harvey - Dry
Schubert - Sonata for Arpeggione and Piano (Rostropovich, cello)
Dinu Lipatti - Last Recital (Bach, Mozart, Schubert, Chopin)

I see where you are coming from. It's a great record, but there are so many players, and so much is going on... I like to know exactly who is doing what as well, and that's impossible with this (well, you can pick out tilbury and cor fuhler, but that's about it). I think the main obstacle to getting into this kind of stuff is learning to focus on texture and dynamics rather than rhythm and melody, IMO. Once it clicks though, you won't be able to get enough of it - or such was the case with me anyway... kudos to you for making the effort. It took a few listens for me but obviously in retrospect I think it was worth it, EAI is the most interesting music happening right now for my tastes...
