Didn't hear that since years. The Quintet. Thomasz Stanko at his best. Will give it a second rotation.

well it turns out SF stuff is typically particularly easy to find through nefarious means, part of why i bring it up.

it's a comp rather than a unique album, though. and excellent.

Has anyone else heard this guy? He's a shockingly great shakuhachi player. Seek him out.

asha bhosle & kronos quartet - you've stolen my heart
Image

she came into my work (roses cafe, SF) the other night with 11 people (no reservation) on an already busy night, and the manager would've turned them away but for a fan sitting at my bar who recognized her and started freaking out, insisting to buy their dinner and stuff, to my bemusement and my coworkers' astonishment (they had never heard of her).. all told, they only had tea and pastries and in doing so, undermining their servers of the most magnificent tip of the evening, which I believe I walked away with as the fan at my bar turned into my best buddy when I knew who Asha was and even could name a few songs...

then Danielle Steele came in as usual a bit later, no big deal.

Experimental music should be something that suggests a way of organizing your thinking, your attitude toward the world, which suggests that the world could be different.

Great choice!
That's a seminal record for its time.....
Anything and everything Komeda ever made with Stanko is pure gold.....Saw Stanko live last week with his new quintet. Things have mellowed greatly...

You're hearing a lot of good stuff, Ed. First time through, or a retrospective?

Steele by a landslide, her pinkyring could buy a boat... though Asha's got the 'humble and traditionally garbed Indian woman' look down PAT.

She looks just like her visage in the above album cover. Less made up though.
