just to weigh in on the whole funky jandek/improvised jandek bit: he had decent players that were cool with their roles for the rudyard's show, but had a really inexperienced set of improvisers for the diverse works show. i was basically cringing for the entire show. i thought the gong player added a lot in terms of dynamic contrast and jandek was doing some very cool things quietly, but the remaining three players were annoyingly inexperienced at improvisation.

a p.o.v. that i heard that i agree with was that jandek has made music in isolation for ~25 years and now he's realizing something most musicians realize very early: it's fun to make music with other people. so his new form of experimentation consists of figuring out what people he likes making music with. i hope it doesn't take him too long!

I've heard Jandek's guitar described as 'out of tune' on many occasions. After fiddling around a bit, I'm pretty sure that may not exactly be true, at least not all the time. 'De-tuned' would prolly be more accurate, but even beyond that, it sounds to me like some of the things (particularly on Six & Six, which I was listening to while experimenting) are in an open diminished tuning of some sort. It also sounds like this diminished chord is achieved by tuning everything slack/down so that the strings are loose & have that odd "bowwwmmm" sound strings tend to get when they're very loose. Just a kooky sonic observation.

Isn't David Keenan a big Jandek fan? He must be sexy, then (Jandek, I mean..). Sorry, still can't see the attraction.
