Oval - OH
So incredibly good. I was expecting brilliance and it's better than I was expecting.

Re: Now Playing

Hornweb Saxophone Quartet (Derek Saw, Martin Archer, Vic Middleton, Pete Lyons), Universe Works (1989).
I don't remember enjoying anything by their American counterparts, the World Saxophone Quartet, near this much. Punchy, full-sounding arrangements of stirring compositions, with each member providing original pieces (some short and bluesy, others more extended and elaborate, taking in R&B and townships jazz along the way). It ends strikingly with a powerful version of Mingus's "Fables of Faubus." One complaint: the live recording is exciting but slightly dry and boxed in.

Starkey, Ear Drums and Black Holes (2010)
Starts out promisngly enough in spacey, dubsteppy mode, but no. Bogged down in mostly iffy guest singers and unimaginative instrumentals.
