Re: NBA 2010 offseason
Avery got fucked by the worst fix ever in the history of the NBA. I like D Wade but that championship is completely tarnished and should be vacated for that season, if not shared with a huge asterick. That abomination is by itself sufficient to forceably remove the silver-haired fuck.
He'd be a great choice; I can't think of a better one. If LeBron had been on that Mavs team I think they'd have still prevailed because he can still make shots when hammered which Dirk isn't as good as; and make no mistake about it, Dirk got hammered hard in those last four fuck jobs while Wade was going to the line after phantom fouls.
I'll bet my blood pressure is much higher now than when I started this post. I really hope Stern dies a very painful death. Alone.

Avery Johnson would be perfect for the Rose-led Bulls, but I doubt Reinsdorf would pay him.

Re: NBA 2010 offseason
I'm amazed with some of the people coaching in the NBA and Avery is on the sidelines. The guy is a no nonsense person that demands complete dedication from his players. Plus he was so clutch in big games despite *not* being a star. I remember when the Ewing-less Knicks caught lightning in a bottle behind Camby and Spree and found themselves in the Finals during the strike year after upsetting the usual cast of Eastern choking dogs (Spike Lee doing the LJ sign FTMFL) and Gumby's strategy being to sag on Robinson and Duncan and make Avery beat them; which makes sense except he drained every fucking clutch shot in a balls-out performance. That he isn't coaching now points out what idiots the NBA owners are.
I feel bad for Mike Brown, which is kind of stupid when you look at our relative positions in life. Still it's a high exposure embarrassment for him and he's never come off as an asshole, at least to me (and I'm obviously not shy about calling assholes out), plus he's been involved in a successful program as an assistant and knows what that's like. He reminds me of Doug Collins who has an obvious passion for the game (when I listen to TNT broadcasts I always have the feeling that when Doug states a stat it's because he looked it up on his own rather than having some droid in his earpiece giving it to him) but is just unable to transfer it effectively to his players. In both cases their teams did very well in the regular season but faltered badly in the playoffs.
A buddy of mine told me about an interview he heard with LeBron's highschool coach (you guys may have heard about it also for all I know) in which he stated that LeBron really wants and needs a coach to tell him what to do. I assume the coach is pretty sympatico to what LeBron was like in highschool since that team was a fucking beatdown machine but can also see how a coach, especially a new head coach coming in after Paul Silas shit the bed, would have a hard time not knowing how much leeway/autonomy he has.

i'm not a fan of Avery Johnson.
I also feel bad for Brown, but the guy has hit his ceiling. He is just not good at making real time adjustements, which is fine for the regular season, but a disaster in the playoffs. He also doesn't seem to have a grasp of the psychology it takes to win.
Doc Rivers may not be a genuis, but he's a really good motivator from what I can tell...and that might be more important than anything else.

Re: NBA 2010 offseason
I think those guys basically motivate themselves, they'd probably do just as well with Garnett as player/coach and Thibodeau still running the D. they basically didn't try for 2/3 of the regular season (27-27 stretch), although that seems to be the way to go these days.
looks like Bosh would follow if LeBron went to NY:

From a Knicks fan POV, is there a reason to favor one team over another when the Lakers play the Celtics?

Re: NBA 2010 offseason
Why does anybody care what Jim Brown has to say on matters other than playing football, lacrosse and beating the hell out of women without ever serving a minute in jail? I took Terry Pluto to task for writing about that senile cocksucker being interviewed by some Crackimore radio station (it must've been a slow day when the Orioles didn't lose) on LeBron's treatment in Cleveland being "an atrocity" (Syracuse must be so proud of ignorant assholes like him and Devendorf beating skirts and showing no evidence of knowing what words they use mean). I have no idea what Brown was doing in Charm City other than maybe he saw a rerun of The Wire and figured his great gangbanger-outreach program was badly needed and he could pretend to be relevent again since even jock-sniffing fuzznuts Spike Lee probably isn't returning his calls. Anyway Pluto responded that the story had gone national (I sense the ESPN fuckheads pushing this shit but I could be wrong) and he wanted to refute it by LeBron's own writer, Buzz Bissinger, stating that LeBron would be skewered in NYC. So well-done Jim: running your ignorant hole over something about which you demonstrably don't know what the fuck you're talking about. Why don't you do something useful like changing your buddy Modell's adult diapers; you made some pretty good coin being "understanding" of both sides when he fucked over Cleveland and some Browns fans were so fucking delusional they didn't tell you to STFU and GTFO. No matter what happens with LeBron, he is well-regarded by people off the court because he doesn't make an asshole out of himself at local parties. Maybe Jim should hang out with Brainless Edwards.

Re: NBA 2010 offseason
I meant in terms of free agency. I guess it doesn't matter. There's talk that LA may try to sign Bosh and do a sign-and-trade with Bynum as bait, but that shouldn't depend on whether they win the championship or not. LeBron would probably have to stay with Cleveland for LA to have a chance for Bosh.jon abbey wrote:well, the Celtics are in their division, I think most Knicks fans would go for LA.The G Man wrote:From a Knicks fan POV, is there a reason to favor one team over another when the Lakers play the Celtics?

I just heard that Mike Brown was fired earlier today. On the Cleveland.com site I saw Lenny Wilkens name mentioned; I think somebody is just fucking around seeing if I'll kill myself with that.

They had to fire Mike Brown.
He made is clear he wasn't going to be an elite in-game coach anytime soon.
Also, this helps in their attempts to retain Lebron, because now they can tell him he can have whatever coach he wants. You really can't fault the Cavs in anything they have done in the past few years, in their attempts to make Lebron happy. th

Re: NBA 2010 offseason
All year I thought that Orlando was going to be a worse team in the playoffs this year with their roster changes. I'm mad at myself for going back on that amidst the emotion of witnessing Lebron and the Cavs lose to Boston, and Orlando beating up on Patsies in the earlier rounds.
Vince Carter is once again acting like the bum that he is, and Jameer is pretty, but I rather have Derek Fisher running the point and playing defense on a playoff team.

Re: NBA 2010 offseason
I agree with everything you wrote re: Brown, bo. For the record, even though losing LeBron would be a major shot to the Cavs, I have faith in Gilbert to maximize the team's potential for the long-term.

Re: NBA 2010 offseason
I am in no way saying I buy into this, but there is a rumor going around that Gilbert may be a potential suitor to buy the Pistons, who are up for sale. The way the story goes, he would sell the Cavs in order to do it. He recently moved his Quicken Loans offices to Detroit and Mike Ilitch (Tigers and Red Wings owner) apparently is not interested in buying the Pistons.
Again, I don't really think Gilbert is going to dump the Cavs and this is probably just local wishful thinking. But it is generating a lot of talk around these parts.

Re: NBA 2010 offseason
I have an answer to this now. I think NY fans need to root for LA, because that is more likely to make Buss retain Phil Jackson at big money, and take him off the table for the Chicago job.The G Man wrote:From a Knicks fan POV, is there a reason to favor one team over another when the Lakers play the Celtics?

Dwayne Wade says the Bulls "aren't loyal" to former players. I know he's trying to do a sell job, but he's full of shit.

I think there will be a lot of wildass claims of extremely doubtful validity in the offseason jockeying.
