thanks for the kind words.Moon wrote:Excellent! Haven't gotten all the way through it yet, but I'm really enjoying it so far. Sounds like you spent a lot of time on it too. Can't wait till I get to the slowed down yodellingjpeatt wrote:http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?kzwziy2cgkh
Mix made for another board's annual cd swap.
Hear! Kitaro vs Nmperign - nobody asked for it, but here it is anyway!
Behold! Will Guthrie & Carlos Santana - together at last!
Experience! Slowed down yodelling, japanese popular song of the late 1920's, the sound of bats and more more more!
50ish tracks blended together over the length of a cd.
hope you enjoy...

I think this is a really cool mix.
It's a cassette I made when I was a kid of 90s electronic and big beat music.
I unearthed it when cleaning out the basement and decided to rip it. I believe it's rather cool musically to hear these so called 'big beat' artists through the prism of the cassette audio. It adds a layer of understanding that many may have found unattainable previously, artistry.

I've been playing records once a week at a local 'vapour lounge' in Toronto as the resident reggae DJ and now I've moved away, but here's one of the best sets we did there from November, but I don't have a tracklist. It's a 2 hour and 40 minute vinyl mix straight from the board, from myself and my partner Hiroshi (a.k.a. Divine Smoke)

Had a bit of a bother preparing the music for an all day summer gathering here, until inspiration struck late last night: Wadada Leo Smith.
The 7 hour program was put on random out of :
Divine Love (ECM 1979)
Spirit Catcher (Nessa 1980)
Touch The Earth - Break The Shells (FMP 1981)
Procession of the Great Ancestry (Nessa 1983)
The Blue Mountain's Sun Drummer (Kabell 1986)
Kulture Jazz (ECM 1995)
Compassion (Meta 2006)
+
Geechee Recollections (Marion Brown + Leo Smith et.al., Impulse 1973)
An incredible range from spiritual jazz and black america blues folklore, to poetry and the FMP fire. Amazing to see how much folks liked the mix too.

Cool. I'm a big fan of Divine Love. It's probably my favorite Smith album I've heard.bedouin wrote:Had a bit of a bother preparing the music for an all day summer gathering here, until inspiration struck late last night: Wadada Leo Smith.

Re: post the last mix you made
my favorite Leo Smith isn't there, 'Creative Music 1' (Kabell 1971), reissued as the first disc of the Kabell Years box on Tzadik.
Re: post the last mix you made
yes, good call. in terms of pure textures and ideas 'Creative Music 1' lays the map for most that is to come after.jon abbey wrote:my favorite Leo Smith isn't there, 'Creative Music 1' (Kabell 1971), reissued as the first disc of the Kabell Years box on Tzadik.
I like most of his work except perhaps the electro-acoustic stuff he did for tzadik. an area visited by most of the post-miles jazz greats (braxton, parker, etc) with little success.

I'm working on some music that's to be produced a certain way so I made this mix with some music that was hard to make sound that way, also music I didn't know that well, all 70s random things I had lying around. It's pretty obvious with slowing down and bass overkill, but also a larger amount of subtle little quirks that I like. I have a clear picture of what I want it to be like, but I don't know how to describe it properly. Whatever je ne sais quoi Cloverfield and nineties adventure games have in common.
Can't promise it will sound good on any kind of setup, not sure it's even possible to make it acceptable universally.
King Crimson - Sailor's Tale
Brian Eno - Golden Hours
Van Der Graaf Generator - Scorched Earth
Billy Cobham - Sorcery
Frank Zappa - Carolina Hardcore Ecstacy
Secos e Molhados - Sangue Latino
Betty Davis - Gettin Kicked Off, Havin Fun
Wailing Wall - Scissor Tailed Swallow
(that VDGG probably shouldn't have been slowed down, but Hamill sounds so damn good with a growly Barry White voice)

That http://ihatemusic.noquam.com/viewtopic. ... 34#p250834 short exchange made me load up said Carla Bley compilation.
http://www.sendspace.com/file/d7hn8x
First you usually get a link there for downloading some little program you don't want to have. If you just hit the refresh button, you'll get the actual download. Anyway you need a button with dark blue letters on light blue ground... that's the one.
The contents can be found below in the attached jpg - it's all unofficial live recordings from excellent sounding FM-broadcasts.
The bands for all tunes are the 9 to 10 people Carla toured with in 1979-83. Compression is 256kbs.
