Re: RIP Pimp C
one year ago today, saddest premature death of a musician since D Boon:

Quam, I expect you to be wearing these next time I see you:

Re: RIP Pimp C
here's a 1991 track that's pretty clearly influential on early UGK, corroborated by Bun:

UGK 4 Life is still allegedly scheduled for March 31 as far as I know, haven't seen it leaked yet.

Re: RIP Pimp C
Just listening to it now. Rather enjoyable, I like the T-pain sampled hook. Different vibe than UGK, for sure. Is this from an upcoming post-humous Pimp C release ?William Hutson wrote:you guys hear that pimp c and lil wayne track that leaked this morning? it's on nah right.

i guess this isn't exactly where to put it, but i really enjoy the xxlmag quiz show "i know rap people" and today's episode is bun b vs. mike jones. quite great. wish bun b was my friend.
also new ugk album out next week. the tracks i've heard are real promising.

yeah, it leaked yesterday, it's on what.cd (I think I gave you a membership there?), or I can UL it somewhere if you want.
I have to say after two listens, it's somewhat disappointing, 'da game's been good to me' is the best track and that leaked a while back.

oh yeah? i'll check it out. what about it is disappointing? i found the last album to be sorta forgettable, but i always like hearing the two of them regardless.

I have listened to it twice today
I like it, wasn't expecting a ridin dirty or anything so I found it pretty good. The only real stinker is the Akon track I think. I like Akon but that beat is bullshit.
I enjoyed Swishers and Erb, Used to Be, Game Been Good to Me, Everybody Wanna Ball, and Feelin' the most so far.
here ya go will http://www.megaupload.com/?d=XVXCDKXO

Re: RIP Pimp C
thanks for the megaupload! downloading now.
yeah, jon, you did invite me to what.cd, and many thanks for that, but my ratio right now is, like, 1.8, so i need to seed for a while before i download anything new. not trying to get kicked off, you know.
but who needs a torrent site, when there's datpiff.com?!? i have been addicted to that for months now, and my obsession is not yet waning.

Re: RIP Pimp C
the last record had an amazing half hour of material mixed in (swishas and dosha, chrome plated woman, life is 2009, trill niggas don't die, the game belongs to me, quit hatin' the south), this one doesn't seem to have much on that level and I don't hear as much as I'd like of the pimp, but I'll keep listening.
seems like odds and ends, though, not surprising they took the best stuff for the double CD, there wasn't that much time after that came out, as we all sadly know.
of course, jive has never done right by these guys, so maybe there's still quality stuff buried somewhere. here's a bit of it, 'the trillogy', the superb triple CD comp that someone made for oink, covering up through dirty money, hits and rarities mixed very nicely, including the uncensored 'ain't that a bitch'.

Re: RIP Pimp C
Besides the Akon track, I find it really works as an album. Might not be the best material they've ever released comparatively, but I do find it very consistent and enjoyable. I'm majorly in favour of Swishers and Erb, Used to Be, and Harry Asshole. Someone commented on CBRAP about how Pimp C wanted the Akon track on the album, so maybe that explains it.dave quam wrote:I have listened to it twice today

also from the comments there:Joda wrote:Someone commented on CBRAP .
"Super Tight is a masterpiece, probably the best top to bottom production display of Pimp’s career. (And this again, despite the fact it’s actually the abbreviated version of a completed double album that was squashed by sample clearance issues.)"
I would give quite a bit of money to get a copy of the double album version, my favorite of their records.
