Emeralds, Ajilvsga, Burial Hex and WZT Hearts come to mind. However, I too didn't hear nearly as much stuff this year.Dad Noise wrote:Due to a very protracted house move and related expenses, I bought very little new music after spring this year and am curious to hear people's recommendations in the nebulous area of the psych/noise/drone/freefolk cassette/cdr DIY scene.

Yeah, moving slighly off topic, what I've listened to most this year is his three volumes of Freedom Meditation Music. I'm a constitutionally glum middle-aged Northern Englishman, and this is a totally unfamiliar concept for me, but his music makes me happy!niwi wrote:that's some good shit right thereDad Noise wrote: Valerio Cosi's Heavy Electronic Pacific Rock

fans of Christoph Heemann should make a point of hearing 'Rings of Saturn'.
same goes for Einsturzende's latest. both are records i've enjoyed spending some time with this year. maybe not as original or exciting as some others, but both polished, imo. i'd be interested to hear other opinions on those.

Yeah...I keep missing Threes Legged Race whenever they play. I kind of prefer Beatty's other project..Eyes And Arms of Smoke, but that's a hard call.
It all deserves a wider audience, that's for sure.
Lot's of interesting stuff going on down here in Lexington..Caboladies, Warmer Milks, Hair Police...it's just too bad that I'm too fukkin' old and decrepit to show up at somebodys basement to partake of the "scene"..
Oh well..

Re: Ok..'08. What was the best..
Due to the many listed appearances of the Breadwinner in this thread, I recently purchased it and am really happy to have done so. A really beautiful album. Was really into the Lescalleet LP Electonic Music but was thrown of by The Pilgrim (will revisit soon). Completely unaware of Lambkin before this release. Never heard of The Shadow Ring either. Worth checking out? Salmon Run?
First Erstwhile release I've picked up since ASO... Wasn't there another Lescalleet related release listed on forthcoming releases awhile back? Or am I confusing it with The Breadwinner?

Re: Ok..'08. What was the best..
there's a lescaleet/rainey duo in the works. they dead a teaser set in nyc the same night as lambkin and lescaleet played, it was pretty fine.
oh and yes to the shadow ring, yes yes yes. there's a new collection of various difficult to find releases due out about now on lambkin's kye label.

plenty of older guys show up at various 'underground' shows here(nyc), i'm sure there'd be someone there within 5 years of you, maybe even someone older than youDohol wrote:Stephen wrote:Three legged race – living order/mourning order (tonefilth)

man, i have been listening to shadow ring's "hold onto id" like non-stop lately. so good, and so mystifying. utterly hilarious and great lyrics, too. i find that the best shadow ring stuff completely puts a weird spell over me; i have to keep listening.
i think "hold onto id" is available from itunes (http://www.siltbreeze.com/shadowring.htm), and you can also hear it here for free:

i can hear darren harris's voice now.. .
