a couple of questions: since I've never been to this before (and can't really afford to go this time, but am certainly tempted), what will the room be like where the quieter sets like radu/klaus, taku/sean, otomo/sachiko are held? how big is it (how many people does it hold)? will there be other shows going on in an adjoining room at the same time? I recall richard's description of the extended malfatti installation, so just curious.

if this was a formal announcement, i would certainly move it. but something in the discussion stage, like this or an erstquake or no fun fest, i like to leave them in the general discussion, at least until they hit the press-release stage.

i don't think it's too much to overlook a thread or two.

hiya

nothing should clash.
organ pieces will be in a separate venue on the friday
saturday / sunday events will be in 2 spaces 40x10x5m, configured as best we can to make them intimate where needed, spacious where needed with appropriate PA's.
audiences have i the past ranged from 150 - 450.
quieter things will be put on earlier in the day, or at other times when the audiences tend to be smaller/ more sober
more stuff to confirm soon.

will keep you posted, and i do hope some of you can make it.

For anyone thinking of attending, the venue is right in the centre of Glasgow, a stone's throw from Central Station. There are heaps of hotels nearby, but if you want somewhere cheap google the Rennie Macintosh Hotel. I stayed there last year and as hotels go its a complete and utter craphole but also very cheap (I just booked three nights for £100) and about 100 yards from the venue. There were about ten rooms left when I reserved one today.

Jon the problem with sound coming from the room upstairs last year was simply caused by very (very) loud music played upstairs (Incapaicants, Junko, The Bain Brothers) with very very quiet music downstairs. Barry obviously knows more than I do, but as I understand it though this was a last minute thing after the room some distance away that was originally intended for the Wandelweiser musicians couldn't be used. Looking at the list of musicians this time I doubt that there would be any problem. Anything Barry puts together is usually run incredibly professionally. I am regularly in awe of Arika's achievements.

I'm curious on what grounds do you apply to get a grant to go to a concert? I'm wholly ignorant of the whole grant process but I was under the impression that you get a grant to produce something for the greater community. I suppose you could make something out of it, an article perhaps or a report to an interested committee or some such, but it just doesn't really strike me as a typical use for grant money. But like I said I know next to nothing about the subject.

i don't really either. but this would be what's called a "professional development grant," in our roles as arts administrators (i work for a non-profit theater space). specifically, the pretty well-funded philadelphia music project (a big pew-funded foundation that sponsors things here) offers professional development grants to organizations that have already received PMP funding for their programming (which we have). we'd go to get programming ideas, see how a festival like this is run, learn more, etc. i know people who've gotten it to go to mutek, to a festival in norway, regular trips to expensive concerts and dinners in nyc, etc. non-profit arts funding world. . . it's a racket! maybe i can get a free trip to glasgow out of that.
