there is a lot of fine doerner on cd (trumpet, view from the window, first contest of pleasures all being high on my list) but my favorite experience of the man was live, with tim barnes in NYC.

I completely agree with mudd. Axel in person is remarkable--I couldn't believe the kind of control he was able to exert over the must unstable, fucked up techniques. I like some of his discs (has the "untitled cd-r with cover by hedwig eberle [sp?]" been mentioned?).

me too; the Dorner/Lonberg-Holm is my favourite of the 3 discs I have from the 'Object' series.

i was in concert of Axel & andrea Neumann duo early this year, great one. i think they did not have any cd as duo?

No I don't think there are any released Axel/Andrea duos. They both appear on the Phosphor disc but thats hardly a duo!

Axel has just so many great releases. He is, IMO one of the most consistently strong musicians working today. I agree on most of the releases mentioned so far, and will add his Trumpet solo on A Bruit Secret, No Furniture (with Baltschun and Fagaschinski) and Durch und durch (with Tony Buck) as additional favourites. To be honest though if I keep thinking about it I'll remember a dozen more I really like before the end of the day!

I've only seen him play live a handful of times, the majority of them a good few years back now, though I did manage to catch the reformed No Furniture earlier this year and hope to see him in Toot in a week or two. He definitely has a very calm, confident presence on stage, making what is undoubtably only achievable via years of skill and control look easy.
