Re: Upcoming Shows (non promotional)
Last night it was the incredible combination of Sun Ra Arkestra and Coleman Lemieux & Compagnie at the beautiful Palais Royale....then tomorrow, I'm going to see this at The Music Gallery:
X AVANT Festival — Klimek presents "Ghetto Ambient," Keith Fullerton Whitman + naw
Finally, on Saturday, I'll be at this one [once again at The Music Gallery]:
X AVANT Festival — Pram, Tim Hecker, Aidan Baker's Liminoid, DJ Craig Dunsmuir

Re: Upcoming Shows (non promotional)
From the Aquarius Records mailing list, Sir Richard Bishop is playing a store concert on Sunday in SF. Also, if anyone from the area is going to see Corrupted at Slim's on Halloween night, I'd love to meet up and get beers beforehand, I already got a ticket. Send me a PM and we'll exchange phone numbers.
"Here's an announcement for local folks, we have a very special live instore performance coming up really, really soon.
(Maybe you saw it posted on our blog, www.aquariusrecordsblog.blogspot.com, already).
We're super pleased to have SIR RICHARD BISHOP, of Sun City Girls fame, playing in our store this weekend!
That's Sunday October 26th, 4 o'clock in the afternoon.
Right here at Aquarius Records (1055 Valencia St. in SF, btwn 21st and 22nd).
He'll be doing an acoustic guitar set, in advance of his show the next night, Monday the 27th, at the Cafe du Nord (where he'll be playing electric), with Barn Owl and Oaxacan opening. We can't wait!
In our reviews of SRB's various recent solo outings for the Locust, Latitudes and Drag City labels, we've said things like:
"Killer alchemical guitar compositions ... Bishop's frame of reference varies wildly from flamenco to the early jazz stylings of Django Reinhardt ... Combines Indian mysticism with old-world European romantic beauty ... Very much in the spirit of the current American Primitive / neo Appalachia sound, exploring similar territory as Jack Rose, Stephen Basho-Jungans, Charlie Schmidt and of course John Fahey ... Moody and emotional, dark and dense, dreamy and lyrical ... Just Bishop and a steel string guitar unfurling dense tangles of intricate fingerpicking, as well as slow contemplative melodies, all rich with Spanish flavor ... Occasionally Bishop goes for an Eastern raga like vibe instead, and ends up sounding closer to UK guitarist James Blackshaw or Rose at his most drone-y ... So so lovely indeed!"
We've been fans of SRB for years so this is kind of a dream come true for us.
See you Sunday!
Lots of love from your devoted AQ staff"

hey, I'm back after a long time away from the board. how is everyone?
the brainwaves festival is happening in Boston/Arlington at the end of November. Is anyone keen on going? (I am). The website said you could send a check for payment for the tickets, but does anyone know if they accept money orders? Threshold HouseBoys Choir • JG Thirlwell's Manorexia • Meat Beat Manifesto • Matmos • Stars of the Lid • Little Annie • Major Stars • Silver Apples • Windy Weber and Thomas Meluch as Lambs Laughter • Reformed Faction • Torch Duo • Nmperign feat. Jason Lescalleet • Marissa Nadler • Glenn Jones • His Name Is Alive • Gary Wilson • Rivulets • Strategy • Nudge • Boduf Songs • To Kill A Petty Bourgeoisie • Lichens + DJ Steven Stapleton & a special video presenation from Greater Than One

I'd imagine a good few people will be doing the same thing... It may be simpler / faster to take a tube for some of the journey Dave, I'm not sure yet, but you're indeed welcome to join me/us in whatever I/we do.Nim Chimpsky wrote:Are you chaps still planning to do this? Sorry Richard, i should have answered your post a while back!Richard Pinnell wrote:Nim Chimpsky wrote:Are you chaps still planning to do this? Is there space for one more?

My current plan is to cycle from the Tate to Cafe Oto, partly because i will have my bike with me anyway and also because it is much faster than the bus or tube.
Something tells me you might not bring your bike along with you on the train from Oxford so here are in my opinion the quickest routes:
- walk across the river to St Pauls, then on Cheap Side catch the bus 242 to Dalston Junction;
- walk to London Bridge, get on the bus 149 to Dalston Junction.
Should take about an hour in both cases, 45 minutes if all goes well...
