I had a couple run-ins with the guy, but Fearandpanic's broad knowledge and uncompromising dedication to his beliefs are really missed around here.P. Wretch wrote:(maybe the now-rarely-sighted Fearandpanic would have something more erudite to say on that score)

You, of all people, should understand

Totally. When he verballed you, he backed that shit up, he was consistent, and he could be utterly hilarious when it wasn't you getting skewered.faster wrote:I had a couple run-ins with the guy, but Fearandpanic's broad knowledge and uncompromising dedication to his beliefs are really missed around here.P. Fear, stop lurking.

Agreed here's another vote for his return. And polyphonic too.

That was the guy from the bay area, right?
Re: Early Music
yes.
sorry for all of these off-topic posts, snailed, I'm sure mark will move them when he's back and settled later today.

Re: the fear of return
He always seemed a bit (overly) angry but only from commitment, I think. Certainly very well informed and interesting but maybe a tone down of the confrontational stance would help get his (very valid) points across.
Re: the fear of return
Really substantive content, overall, with a frequently snotty mien.
Betcha he's lurking like Tom Sawyer at his own funeral, digging this!

i prefer to imagine that he is pulling a rip van winkle, and will wake up with a giant beard and a great deal of confusion in 20 years or so.
Re: the fear of return
If he's lurking I'm sure there would have been something that would have given him the shits enough to at least pop up and take someone to task...
Has anyone had contact with him outside of here?
Has he been on soulseek?

So F&P is not merely on sabbatical?
Too bad if that's the case. Out of all the postings I don't have the time to read lately, it's a shame I can't not read his either.
...that's a tribute... his integrity is missed.

Debating about who's good enough to belong to the glorious IHM community?
What are the rules exactly? Does one need a degree in musicology? Is personnal acquaintance with influential posters here a plus? Is there a proprietary algorithm that determines in real time the relevance of one's musical taste by scanning their posts on the "wtf are you listening to" thread"? Should one post two dozens monochrome covers a day in the aforementioned thread?
And I believe knowing more on gender, race, beliefs and sexual orientation of all posters would also be extremely useful and appropriate to decide on who to ban.
Am I popular now that I use irony and sarcasm? Please say yes and make me an admin!

Let's not do that-it says "do as I say, not as I do."
