Lonely music

Post by Salty Swift »

All right, so after a vivacious party, in my manic depressive state, I'm feeling a bit lonely.....which begs the question - what do you listen to in your lonely hour or your alone time???

I don't listen to The Smiths often but your post reminded me of this song.

The Smiths - "How Soon Is Now?"

"There's a club, if you'd like to go
You could meet somebody who really loves you
So you go, and you stand on your own
And you leave on your own
And you go home, and you cry
And you want to die"

A true spiritual leader if ever there was one.

Yes! Actually, I prefer this one to the one I posted. Both great though.

Incidentally, does anyone know the link between Ekkehard Ehlers' John Cassavetes (pictured above) and William Basinski's Disintegration Loops IV? They sound suspiciously similar.

Joe Foster, ladies and gentleman, undisputed heavyweight champion of the drive by snide remark.

At risk of derailing the thread, can I ask briefly after those Sinatra albums? Are they full albums as they were released at the time? How do they hang together compared to the innumerable collections that litter the landscap.

I also enjoy breaking out Zoviet France 'Shouting at the Ground' in those kind of situations.

Only The Lonely is a concept album about... loneliness (surprise !), kind of a long flash-back about a love affair that ended a long time ago.

Increbible compositions "Angel Eyes", "Only The Lonely", "One More For the Road" served with killer orchestral arrengements. Sinatra sings perfectly, as usual, but without the clichéd masculinity that sometimes pervades the "hits" gathered in the compilations... He genuinely sounds fragile here.

My favourite vocal jazz album...

Shit...I have been putting on some weight lately...hoping nobody noticed...oh well.

But yeah, I've been super busy lately, and haven't been much use around her I guess. I should just shut the fuck up, but I keep getting annoyed. Maybe it's a sign that I should listen to some MEDITATIVE MUSIC or some HOLY MINIMALISM.

Or maybe not.

Well, you usually are pretty funny/ accurate, and I agree 100% about Rollins.

You should probably take care of the bolded bit though, being just married and all.

To not overly derail, I find the Nijumu albums Keiji Haino did pretty suited for lonely times.

Fourier Transform - No Scott 4? I know it tends to be hit or miss to some people but I always felt Scott was going through some lonely times during that album. Especially with songs like "On Your Own Again" and "The Worlds Strongest Man". Maybe that's just me.

No Scott 4?
No, I don't really rate it - too patchy to create any mood for very long. If it just consisted of three tracks, On Your Own Again, Angels of Ashes and Boy Child, then sure, it'd be a pretty perfect single/EP. But the rest of it's just filler that leaves me cold. And not cold in a good way :|

I forgot to mention these three things earlier:
Empress: Empress (Geographic)
Empress: The Sounds They Made (Pehr)
Movietone: Day and Night (Domino)

all of which are fragile, haunting and beautiful.

And - just found this, which could bring a man to tears.
