NFL 2008-2009
not much to say, but the season starts in a few hours, so time to move on from the offseason thread.
Re: NFL 2008-2009
The Redskins' play callling against the Giants was atrocious. The Redskins played as if they were running out the clock in the fourth quarter, down nine. Jason Campbell made poor throws whenever he tried to go downfield, which wasn't very often.
I will be surprised if Justin Tuck isn't playing in the Pro Bowl this year. He had a very good first game. The Giants' run blocking was terrific as was Brandon Jacobs.

Re: NFL 2008-2009
what was up with those bright yellow tips on some of the Redskins players' shoes? shouldn't that be illegal? it's at least somewhat confusing in a sport where yellow on the ground means a penalty flag.

You mean a swing pass when it's third and 27 (or whatever the fuck it was) isn't a good call???The G Man wrote:The Redskins' play callling against the Giants was atrocious.
You're leaving out the wonderful clock management at the end of the first half for which they got miraculously bailed out by a crossing pattern by Santana Moss. Lacking that they may have gotten a field goal *but* they would've had all their fucking time outs left!!! I thought I was watching the reincarnation of Schottentater. The G Man wrote:The Redskins played as if they were running out the clock in the fourth quarter, down nine.
Good win by the Ginats though; I harbor them no ill will (how could I after beating that cocksucker Belichick last year).
Without hyperbole I've really got nothing

a DVR is a godsend for football, I just watched the first half of the Jets game in 34 minutes.

I guess we're about to find out just how good a coach Belichick is.

Cassel will make his second start and first as a QB since high school next week.Captain Hate wrote:I guess we're about to find out just how good a coach Belichick is.
Who will the Patriots sign to compete with him? Joey H? Chris Simms? J-Load?

Man, not that I didn't need a reason to not pay attention this season - I actually resisted temptation to check the score until about 5:30 PM. This one (Brady out) nails it shut.
Walto must be tickled pink.

Shit!! I like Simms, especially after he got fucked over by that cock gobbler Chuckie, so maybe I'll have to ultimately root for Darth Hoodie (thank God gentle giant and the rest of teh ghey JC dweebs don't post here to see that potential massive humiliation). Just think, it could be much much much worse: Favre could've stayed away from all the soap-opera bullshit and ultimately get united with Moss. The suicide watch can only do so much.

Randy Moss should convince the Pats front office to give his recently-retired buddy Daunte Culpepper a look. Reunion!

Cassel is better than anyone they're going to be able to bring in. They should take a look at Culpepper, i agree, but neither he, Simms, nor anyone else out there is going to be any better than Cassel.

Heard secondhand radio host/former DE Fred Smerlas dismissed Culpepper along the lines of being dumb as a rock; Boomer more or less said the same thing this AM as well, not being able to handle the playbook or whatnots.
I'd guess they'll sign a vet as the backup, but not necessarily Simms. Testaverde encore? Flutie? Bledsoe? (I'm supposed to be ignoring this...)

I don't think anyone in the Chicago area outside of Lake Forest can honestly say they expected what happened in Indianapolis last night. The return of the Toughs!
Thank you, sir, may I have another?

Let's not get ahead of ourselves; first beat the shit out of brettfavrebrettfavrebrettfavre and then we'll talk. Meanwhile is anybody besides me enjoying that Matt Cassell is starting and Matt Leinart is on the bench.Erik Lund wrote:It's not humiliating, Cap'n. Welcome aboard...?

I'm not getting your point here or maybe just not understanding you: He didn't make anything worse by playing Sunday, right? From what I read he will miss essentially the same amount of time. If you're saying that it was a dumb risk to take and he was gambling too much with his career, I'd pretty much agree with you.Borat Pri Hagafen wrote:Merriman out for the year. Re: NFL 2008-2009
The team doctors told him in the offseason he should have this surgery, and he ignored them, or he might have been able to contribute this year. Then, when it was obvious to everyone in the world except him that he wouldn't be able to contribute much without 2 of his ligaments, he chose to risk his career because he knew better. Now he's finally having surgery, and only like 8 months too late. Rocket scientist.
