Josh McDaniels renegs on the Colts to stay as NE OC.

Deciding factor could be:

1. Andrew Luck's shoulder
2. Promised HC job after Belichick retires

Kraft also gave him a significant raise.

No matter what the reason, If the NE thing doesn't work out, he'll have a hard time getting another HC offer.

Eh, I don't agree that he would have a hard time getting another HC gig. Other teams likely won't care what happened here, and your factor #1 could be a big reason why.

As for said factor, I'm beginning to wonder more and more if we ever see Luck play again.

Good article. I guess it's #2 combined with the big raise he got. I think McDaniels coaches the first post-Brady Patriots team.

So what is the upside to taking over a Brady-less Patriots?

It sounds like a good story, but I certainly cannot see the motivation behind it, if true. I still think the Luck factor sounds more plausible.

It wasn't the Luck thing. He came in yesterday to clean out his locker when Kraft and Belichick changed his mind.

I'm behind drafting him now because he would be running behind Andrew Norwell, one of the best guards in the league, who is going to sign with NY as a FA and Sean Payton said Barkley is the best RB prospect in 25 years. Thirdly, Gettleman is supposedly high on Davis Webb as the successor to Eli.

I thought about this more and think I"d rather they pick a QB or trade down, depending on their evaluation of the QB's available and Davis Webb. Great RB prospects have maximum value in their rookie year; the Giants are rebuilding from 3-13 and the best team in football is in their division.

I think that's where we disagree. They came into the 2017 season as a dark horse Super Bowl pick. Mismanagement and a head coach that lost the locker room sabotaged the season. Basically, they are still the same team. And I believe competent coaching and a dynamic running back puts them right back in the discussion.

I'd sure as hell take a shot. Look at it this way: if I'm wrong, the worst outcome is you have a running back I recently heard referred to as "a rich man's David Johnson" for the next five years.

from an entertainment perspective, I want the Giants to get Barkley with the #2 pick and then Lamar Jackson in round #2 (not looking like he will last that long unfortunately). I watched a lot of Jackson in college, super fun player but I doubt he will be a good NFL QB. but these two combined with Beckham, Shepard and Engram would be FUN AS HELL to have on my TV every Sunday.
