Gordon, do you think the Giants should have fired Reese also? it's hard not to wonder what they would have been like if Victor Cruz had been healthy all season instead of out the entire year.

also, if that entire season had played out exactly the same way except Coughlin was 49 years old instead of 69, I wonder if Reese gets fired instead, or maybe neither of them.

Hell no! That's why I'm so fucking excited about all of this. It should spell the end of Goodellspeak! It will take a little time, but this epic debacle will eventually crumble. They'll get a slight bump in attendance when the new stadium opens...four fucking years from now! It'll be more of a party where a football game happens to break out, which will at least be slightly more enticing than watching Salt N Pepa coaching the perpetual 7-9 Rams in the Los Angeles Coliseum In Memoriam.

But eventually this will go down as a historic clusterfuck and further tarnish the turd legacy of Forrest Gumpdell.

On to London, bitches! :D

Yes, I am reposting below my post from three days ago.

Reports that 69 year old Tom Coughlin is going to sign a four year deal to coach the Eagles!

If I were an Eagles fan I wouldn't be happy.

I have to think the Eagles wanted either Gase or McAdoo or both and lost out.

If McAdoo fires the strength and conditioning coach, Jerry Palmieri, I'll be happy.

Joe Philbin has been named McAdoo's OC. It's not clear whether Philbin or McAdoo will call the plays.

If Jerry Reese has a bad year, he'll be fired and the new GM will inherit McAdoo.

That was a grudge signing if ever there was one.

I think more desparation than anything else. Lurie wants to win more than he wants to piss off the Giants. I don't think there's any hate between him and Tisch/Mara.

Coughlin was a middling coach, IMO, which would make him one of the most overrated coaches in NFL history. He's got this halo effect because of the two championships and the nice story about the tough and brusque guy who changed into a fatherly/grandfatherly figure to his players.

No, I meant it was a grudge signing on Coughlin's part! I think he wants to finish his career sticking it to Mara.

As for his coaching ability, I pretty much agree with your take. My only reservation being that he never seemed to have a lot of quality, healthy players in New York. Would you agree with that?

I agree that he feels wronged by Mara. I don't think he's right after a 12 year run. I agree with you if you are talking about the last three years, when the Giants were #1, #1, and either #2 or #3 in games lost to IR. Back during the 2007 (SB win) and 2008 (11-1 start) run, the Giants OL starters cumulatively missed zero games for two years plus five playoff games.

Right, that's my point. I just feel if he could have consistently fielded a quality team the last three years, he likely would still be coaching the Giants. And that was beyond his control. I don't think what he did in Jacksonville was a fluke, but maybe the game has simply passed him by. Who knows?

He stuck with Kevin Killbride, I mean Gilbride for seven years, just an awful OC who got along personally with Coughlin. Perry Fewell was a really bad DC who lasted five years. His predecessor, Tim Lewis, was also bad, getting fired after three years and never getting a coordinator's job again. Parcells put together great staffs, Coughlin, did not.

One more thing about Reese- the Giants were the underbidders to Washington for Albert Haynesworth. Talk about dodging a bullet!

49er's expected to hire Shanny.

His Skins experience was a disaster, but the blowup with Snyder was over RGIII. Shanahan was against drafting Griffin and didn't like the way Snyder let him play by his own rules. WIth hindsight, Shanny looks a little better, now.

Sounds very familiar. Don Shula got "retired" from the Dolphins because he refused to shitcan Gary Stevens and Tom Olivadotti. Both of which were absolute disasters as coordinators. Wayne Huizenga knew that Jimmy Johnson was itching to coach in Miami again, and finally decided enough was enough.

And as I heard someone say not too long ago, "and they're still looking for Shula's replacement".

Not to me, he doesn't. He ruined whatever potential career RGIII could have had.

Fuck Mike Shanahan. He should have had his ass kicked in after that game.

Ed Reed now an assistant DB coach in Buffalo.

That's interesting. I hope his talents transition well.

Buried headline of the week, Lawrence Philips was found unresponsive in his prison cell and later died at an outside hospital. Fitting ending to a disaster of a human being.

I said "reports". The story going around is that Coughlin didn't have a team of assistants so he backed out. Those bad coordinators TC kept out of loyalty were eventually fired but he was forced to do it. Coughlin survived several more years.

Pederson to Philly. Two openings left.
