the Eagles offense seems due to really go nuts one of these games, hopefully it will not be this week.

Re: NFL 2014
I can see attending games for everything but the the NFL (R.I.P.), where even nosebleed seats can run you hundreds of dollars.
That said, I haven't attended a football game in nearly 20 years, and we went to no Royals games this year.
It's like I've said elsewhere (to echo what Naggz has stated), with a 52 inch screen, and an above average surround sound system, it may not be the same exact thing as being there, but it's close enough for me these days.
We did do some Omaha Storm Chaser games this year. But, when you're talking $17 a ticket to sit three rows behind home plate, that's a whole other story.

heh, well, I don't fully get large arena or stadium shows, but of course there's no substitute for music in rooms with 50-100 people.Enforcer wrote:It's amazing that anything gets people to leave their homes and actually attend a live performance of some kind anymore when there is an electronic device that is capable of delivering it to their living rooms .jon abbey wrote:I haven't understood why people pay so much to go to sporting events for years now.

The conclusion about 2nd and short being better than 1st and 10 in some situations is fascinating.

I watched pretty much the whole second half of the NE/Buf game, and I don't think I saw the Bills run the ball a single time. Not once. Not sure I've ever seen that before.
I was impressed by Orton. His receivers dropped at least a half dozen passes in the second half. But Buf's main problem was its defensive secondary, which sucked. Not a ton of pressure on Brady from the pass rush either.

Re: NFL 2014
Lovie Smith has to be the worst head coach in the history of the NFL. He was bad enough with the Bears where he squandered some pretty decent talent but he's just a complete trainwreck in Tampa Bay. He doesn't even merit Tater status because I can't think of a single fucking thing he's good at except making people feel sorry for him, which obviously doesn't work on me.
I'm gonna try and shock Scotty to death by saying something out of character and praise Belichick, who donated an anonymous amount of money to build a weight room for Case Western Reserve's football team in the name of his father, Steve, a Western Reserve graduate. I've interacted with a couple people online who knew his father when he coached and scouted for the Naval academy and they all talk about what a great guy he was. I think it's a great way to honor your father by naming something at a Div 3 school after him that might pique the interest enough of people using it to figure out who he was.
I used to really like Dick Stockton but he needed to retire about 20 years ago.
Am I the only person completely immune to the charms of Russell Wilson? Fuck him.
Geno Smith and Kirk Cousins toss late pick sixes to give the other team the backdoor cover. abbey, are our teams pathetic or what?
How 'bout those Browns?

Re: NFL 2014
that game wasn't nearly as close as the score, they kicked the crap out of Seattle on both sides of the ball, in Seattle. they look very legit right now, looking forward to their games with the Eagles.
Re: NFL 2014
Oddest part being I came thisclose to putting them in my preseason bottom five. I honestly gave them the chance to win four, maybe five, games this year. IIRC, I had them finishing last in the division.
But you are absolutely right, it wasn't as close as the score indicated. I heard someone else say that last night (perhaps one of the announcers), and I thought that was spot on.
I just do not get it. Maybe they needed to go to this no name defense last year...

Re: NFL 2014
Cappz, as far as the Browns go, many pundits thought they were a borderline playoff team this year. I was on the fence, honestly. But they play thier ass off week in and week out. If they had Gordon, they'd likely be a lock for a wildcard spot.
They still have a shot.
Oh, and the Giants O-line looked as bad as any I've ever seen. Wow. Is Pugh really THAT bad?!

Re: NFL 2014
The Browns might have been a playoff team last year if Hoyer hadn't gotten hurt; Weeden and Jason Candle just couldn't get it done. I felt bad for Chud getting canned based on that (and the owner, Haslem, being kind of a dipshit) but I think they really lucked out in getting Pettine, who seems to be the perfect personality for the club. Bringing Gordon back should really work out well in view of how the other receivers and running backs have stepped up. Losing Alex Mack was huge but it was great to see everybody on the team come out and wish him a speedy recovery as he was being carted off. Finally the stench of Holmgren is gone; what a worthless turd that fat pile of shit was.
The Pukes looked tremendous yesterday. I hate to think that Jones was right to keep Jason Garrett around so long after they looked just as pathetic under him as they did sad Santa but he seems to know what the fuck he's doing. I really really enjoyed them pounding Seattle and those fuckhead fans.
After last night's game I've almost completely given up on predicting anything. I'm a Coughlin fan but the Ginats looked completely unprepared for the game.

Yeah, that game last night just blew my mind. If you told me the Eagles were going to win, fine. But if you told me they'd make the Giants look like a replacement team...
Re: NFL 2014
It reminded me (in reverse) of the game when the Giants sacked McNabb 12 times, six by Osi against Winston Justice. IIRC, the Eagles won at the Meadowlands later in the season and beat the Giants a second time in the playoffs. Pugh had perhaps the worst game of his NFL career.Mo Noyz wrote:Yeah, that game last night just blew my mind. If you told me the Eagles were going to win, fine. An awful game became sickening after the Victor Cruz injury in the endzone. Andre Williams looks like a lesser version of Brandon Jacobs. The WC offense certainly works better when the RB is capable of catching swing passes and screens and breaking away. The Giants need to pick up a back like that in next year's draft or in free agency.
Donnell made a nice play on the TD reception wiped out by Beatty's holding. The ensuing play ended Cruz's season.

Anybody else in favor of doing away with replay? Here's why I think it should go: If most of the challenges end up getting rejected, then you're not doing anything to improve things. If there are still arguments over whether the officials ruled properly then you've still got a problem which this was supposed to correct. I'm not saying that the process has to be perfect but there have been weekly events when the ex refs in the broadcast team have been wrong about how the issue should be resolved. There is still controversy over whether the game is being fairly officiated which should be the kiss of death to the current form of the process. Whether it's replacement refs or this, the Goodell Football League too often resembles a sandlot operation rather than a multi billion dollar business.

I think we've got to accept the good with bad, unfortunately. I also think it's as good as it will ever be. The human error element will always be in play, so why not try to reduce it as much as possible?
It will never be perfect, but I don't see that as a reason to abolish it.

Re: NFL 2014
What I'd really like to see is a simplification of the rule book so that even the simplest penalties don't give refs like Gun Show and Steratore free reign to recite several chapters of War & Peace.
That may be one of the most annoying aspects of the game today.

Re: NFL 2014
My pet NFL peeve is when a hold directly leads to a big gain, the flag is thrown, the offensive is penalized 10 yards, and then the announcer says that the team would have had a big gain if not for the penalty.Mo Noyz wrote:What I'd really like to see is a simplification of the rule book so that even the simplest penalties don't give refs like Gun Show and Steratore free reign to recite several chapters of War & Peace.
