People here seem a little pissed off at his treatment. He's a fan fave (though the Cs keep saying that about Davis now) and people thought he played through a lot of pain and maybe even sacrificed his career, only to get dumped. I'm loving this of course.

But not as much as the new revelations about Pitino.

The already snakebitten Rockets lose the speedy Von Wafer to an overseas team. Clips add Rasual Butler by sending a future 2nd rounder to the Hornets.

"When you have a problem, if you tell the truth the problem becomes part of your past," he said. "If you lie it becomes part of your future."

Rick Pitino yesterday (two days after saying he'd make no public statement of any kind until the trial).

Love the way the Louisville Pres. supported Ricky for doing the right thing and coming clean, when actually he was outed. So typical.

I'm really, really trying not to pay attention to this story, but am I getting the gist...?

He had an affair with some woman and then gave her money which may or may not have been for an abortion. She then tried to extort him for millions of dollars, and when she was arrested for that, all of a sudden she cried rape. Now, all sorts of hypocritical pricks who think nothing of cheating on a spouse themselves, can get on their moral high ground and act as if this is about something bigger than that? I'm the last person to condone cheating, but unless you're Mrs. Pitino, the moral outrage here is a fucking joke.

Love to know what I'm missing.

P.S. He coached the Knicks and some other team I choose not to remember; don't tell me i'm not on topic...

Yeah, you're totally missing the gist. All stories about Pitino involve his inability to tell the truth, while simultaneous bragging about how incredibly honest he is.

I don't understand what any of this has to do with anything, why it's any of our business, and why any of it has anything to do with how he can coach.

It gets written about because he's a celeb--and in his case, a celeb with a moral turp clause in his contract.

Like Lute Olson or John Edwards or Bill Clinton. It's not about whether they're good coaches or statesmen, and of course it's nobody's business really. But when somebody is particularly sanctimonious (like Gary Hart, e.g. when he bragged about how he lives like a monk), it's very pleasing when they get caught with their pants down. I took no pleasure from the Marv Albert biz, because he seemed like a decent guy and never made any pretense of being pure. While Pitino, like the also despicable William Bennett, writes books about how people are supposed to act.

FWIW, I feel the same way about Larry Brown as I do about Pitino--smarmy bullshitter, and I love it for him to get nailed for something too. But they're both good coaches, no question.

This is good, the pith and the gist for me of all these "scandals."
My life needs my attention, my moral involvement, my high dudgeon about how others get hooked into sex, money and power trips is silly.
This is how I get snookered over at the other place, sticking my nose into other people's drama threads.

This can't be said enough. Marv was going out with some dumpy skeezer who should've been willing to get Dirty Sanchez's and pearl necklaces in public for having any B-list celeb pay attention to her, not to mention the best play-by-play hoops announcer evarrrrrr. So she gets hinkey about some of Marv's semi-mild weirdness and I get deprived of his talents because the NBC cocksuckers decide to go all fucking bluenose on it and can him. So I get garbage like Goof Walton and probably Zeke in one of his post-playing stints of complete failure (Florida fucking Interntional FTMFL) and who knows what boring play by play douches, all because Marv was a little "creative". Fuck that shit. And fuck Pitino. Just because.
Without hyperbole I've really got nothing

That rant pissed me off because it got me thinking about all the badly announced games I endured because Marv was in purgatory for a couple of years. Come to think of it, most Marv-less NBA games are poorly announced.

Regardless, the big news in basketball isn't Pitino's personal life or Dwayne's dissing of the Knicks and Nets.

Q got traded, again.

Sorry, but as people used to say about Clinton, "It's not the sex, it's the lying." I don't stick my nose into anybody''s business who isn't already either up my ass or trying desperately to be with a book on "being a an honest adult" or a campaign or a line of santimonious bullshit. I don't think I'm better than they are, but that's largely why I object to their acting/talking as if they're holier than thou/moi. So, when they get nailed, there's bound to be glee from us dirt-dwellers.

It's particularly wonderful when it's a right-wing, evangelical, southern, anti-gay, Republican Senator.

It's true that Marv got hosed and we got hosed. For what? He gave somebody a hickey? Fuck Turner and TBS.

And may God fuck Rick Pitino.

So you're restating you regard Pitino's character defects as a personal effront. Because in the real world, he's not *up your ass.* He's totally unaware you exist. His authoring pieties is part and parcel of his delusions, what do you care? Really, that's the rub, Walto-why do you care? Why does anyone (again, referring to myself as well) respond to G**dspeak's delusional posts?
Etc.

I just hope he can squeeze a few more 9/11 invocations out of this mess. He's got at least two good ones in already.

I care for the same reason I care about William Bennett's indiscretions. When these assholes stop preaching (I realize they're not preaching to me personally, Jesse--that's irrelevant) I'll stop taking pleasure in their moral frailties. Again, I had no interest in the sordid details of the Lute Olson saga: in the Horn book it's "Let him among us without sin cast the first stone...unless we're considering whacking those who have publicly suggested that their own shit doesn't stink, in which case, throw hard, aim true."
