Well yes, Schau, I remember that and am pleased but Gary finally got some young quality bigs (ie not JUCO transfers like Boom Osby, who I loved for the two years we had him) to go with his uncharacteristically deep group of guards.

How about the job that Josh Pastner is doing? #1 recruiting class in the country. He used to be Lute's lap dog, I never thought he'd ever get a head coaching job, period. He used to be a (sort of) running joke at AZ when I was there. Good for him.

Somebody wrote to Norman Chad last week that if Calipari takes the MethCats to a Final Four and subsequently has the NCAA erase the tourney record because of the inevitable recruiting violations, that will be a hat trick of schools he accomplished that at; a record more unbreakable than Knight's career wins.

Wisconsin 65 - Arizona 61. Pretty boring, I feel asleep with 5 minutes to go and the game tied.

Big 10 is up this year. Pac-10 is waaaaay down. Not sure the Pac-10 deserves a single team in the top 25 right now.

No big surprise here:

"North Carolina, which lost to Syracuse in the 2K Sports Classic Championship last weekend, dropped sharply in the latest ESPN/USA Today men's college basketball top 25 poll, slipping from No. 4 to No. 12."

I might be calling this one too early, but I think Cappy's Terps are going to tumble out of the top 25 after tonight. Cincy is borderline tooling on them in Maui.

Eagerly awaiting this. I'm trying (and failing) to envision the U-K version of a "Michigan Man" to come in and resurrect the program after the inevitable Calipari fall from grace, that is if it's actually possible to reform an entire culture of hillbilly alumni with tobaccy and horse money burning holes in their pockets. Give some money to the Ag school already, you bunch of toothless morons.

Another question is, where the next logical step for Calipari after U-K (besides federal prison)? One possible moment of saving grace for the greaseball may be that the Kentucky program still comes with some residual luster: he doesn't have to flack the school as hard as he had to sell Mempiss and UmAss. He's got his choice of any methed-up idiot for hundreds of miles, as long as they can hit the three.

A true sign that the devil walks the earth is that when I got to my kid's place and turned on espn without knowing what was on, that fucking abomination was there to greet me. What a load of shit that was. The only saving grace is that Gary likes to use such maulings as a "teachable moment" to yell at them constantly to get their heads out of their asses for the real season. Plus these fucking Maui classics are just a big excuse to stroke the alumni for more jack; they should call it the Yaoi Classic.

Look, I know it's not the early 50s anymore, but Arizona State and LSU are playing in the Garden right now, in front of about 75 fans.

The UCLA Bruins have chalked up losses to Cal State Fullerton, Portland, Butler, and Long Beach State. This team is awful, and represents a bewildering lapse in recruiting by Howland. There's no depth. I understand the concept of a rebuilding year but I didn't know that involved leveling the entire structure and starting from scratch. The Trojans will likely kick the Bruins' asses in hoops this year too, they look pretty good. It's a sad time for Bruin athletics.
