Sorry about that, jon. I should have clarified my remark.

BTW, has there ever been a better match-up of punters in recent years than tonight?

Lechler and Scifres.

Sounds bizarre, but these cats are true fucking stars.

Wouldn't know, I was too angry to keep watching and turned off the TV. Russell looked terribly slow with reads and was telegraphing passes in the first half, so if he got picked again I wouldn't be surprised. Which contributes to how livid I was that they took a TD away from him. It ain't like he's going to throw a lot of them at this stage of his career, with rookie receivers. He willed that motherfucker in there, and needs confidence going forward.

Turn the game back on, Brother!

It's really a good game so far.

This game really underscores exactly why I thought the AFC West would be up for grabs this year.

Vinny Jackson with a TD grab that makes me think Brotherman may have owned my ass concerning him...

Holy crap, 4th and 15 and San Diego blows the coverage. Way too much time left, but I can't believe the Raiders have a chance to win.

Well, there you have it. Four points taken off the board, and the Raiders lose by four. Golic, Young, and Greenberg are talking about "moral victories." Just shut the fuck up, all three of you.

AFC West is wide open, noj.

Did I mention something about Sproles earlier...

I only saw the second half of that, but awful fucking football, easily the lowest level of play of any of the four games I watched this week (Steelers/Titans, Jets/Texans, GIants/Redskins). dreadful O by both teams for the third quarter, dreadful D by both teams in the last three minutes.

the only things worse were the play by play guy (Mike from Mike and Mike, his voice just isn't cutting it, he sounds like he's doing Mystery Science Theater on a football game), those brutal throwback referee uniforms (I like the actual team ones, but refs are not candystripers), and having to play in a baseball stadium.

Hehehe. Unassailable points, all.

Really, which is worse, watching a football game with part of the field as dirt, or watching a baseball game with hash marks in the outfield? I was nice seeing the stadium full (particularly the aerial shots), I'd forgotten what it looked like with people in it.

I agree with the last half of this, but much of the game before that was anything but awful. But I have a far better perspective of it than you do. I sat through both a Chiefs and a Rams game this weekend.

That said, it was a good game between two mediocre teams. I know, Brotherman allegedly "destroyed" my arguments against the Chargers earlier  , but what I saw from them last night was exactly what I was expecting on pretty much every front. Rivers looked unbelievable at times but his line wasn't giving him much time to get anything done. Jackson looked as solid as ever the few times Rivers was able to get the ball to him, Chambers was nonexistent, and Floyd popped in a time or two to make an excellent grab. The running game went nowhere behind that borderline terrible line. Defensively they looked just as feeble as they did last year without Merrimen. Once they start facing QB's who can actually complete passes they're going to be in for some really long days.

Oakland is pretty much the same team they were last year with an improved D. They got a lot of pressure on Rivers and pretty much shutdown the running game. The O looked just short of acceptable. Their WR's can't get open, and Russell couldn't hit them if they did. They ran the ball alright, but that was about it. And that fourth down bomb for a TD was classic Davis. An incredibly stupid call that accidentally worked.

Having seen three of the four AFC West teams this weekend (and going on the reasonably safe assumption that Denver is horrid), it looks as though this division is actually WORSE than it was last year. Unbelievable. It's only week one, but...

I have this uneasy feeling that fantasy owners who have Adrian Peterson are going to... do well today.

if there has been a week 2 game with as much hype as this Patriots/Jets game, not just from the media, but from the players/organizations, I don't remember it.

There's usually one or two games a year with this level of hype, but you're right, I can't recall one this early in the season either.

Andy Reid's record in challenges: 14-44. The Igs may as well just sacrifice a timeout per half.
