I like the break. It gives teams chances to throw in wrinkles. Mizzou's fake punt and pooched onside kick probably don't get called otherwise.

It also gives underclassmen and red shirts a virtual second training camp. That's one reason bowl teams repeat as bowl teams.

I was bummed Mizzou and Wisconsin were scheduled side by side. But creative DVR-ing let me catch both games without knowing too much in advance.

Given the rules, it's incredibly stupid to miss the biggest game of one's career because he couldn't avoid getting high for a short period of time. OTOH, if one goes by the Wonderlic tests, the average NFL receiver is about as smart as JR Smith. It might be worse for major program NCAA receivers.

Also true for pro sports. I have never seen the logic of testing athletes for non-performance enhancing drugs.

More likely to get hurt, maybe? Although with alcohol, probably goes the other way. It seems like drunks in cars crashes are always the only ones who walk away.

When I was in kollidge I tried an experiment, strictly for real sciency stuff, of playing basketball after drinking and getting high. I sucked both times but for different reasons. Alc destroys your coordination and pot makes you too unaggressive.

my friend and I used to play tennis stoned. I think on a very amateur level it can maybe help with focus (it promotes tunnel vision, unless of course you get distracted in which case your tunnel vision moves elsewhere), but certainly not on a level like this.

I don't think it has anything to do with injuries, just antiquated puritan bullshit.

I understand the tunnel vision and concentration stuff but imo it kept me from instinctively reacting to things which I think is what the net result of prior experiences leads you to do, at least in basketball. When I was at my peak (late 20s) I used to play with some pretty talented guys who would sometimes show up just reeking of reefer and they never were as good as they'd otherwise be. Pot stays in your system for so fucking long, though, as far as testing goes that they could play after the buzz wore off and be perfectly fine as far as playing at a high level but would flunk a test. So the tests are dogshit imo. And no, they have nothing to do with injuries.

That was painful. OSU's OL was dominant and their defense was very well prepared. The Giants could use a back like Elliott. Is he a first rounder if he declares for the draft?

I don't usually care much for talk about "momentum"--but those two early third down drops basically ended the game for Oregon. And they should have kicked a field goal the first time, too.

OK, I just popped in because I couldn't understand why this thread kept getting bumped the last couple of days.

I had no idea the championship game was played last night!

January fucking 12th??!! That's truly ridiculous.

I felt contractually obligated to watch the game, which is hard for me to do now that I've got the perspective of a professor at OSU. But I kept thinking during the game that this is not the old Ohio State that would get to these opportunities because they played in a weak Big 10. This looked like a team that had the speed and strength of a great SEC team. Urban Meyer has done an amazing job.

I was pleasantly surprised to see that campus today seemed entirely normal. Not one person, including my students, even mentioned the game to me.
