While you didn't disparage Jackson specifically, you said "they have an outstanding QB, that's it".

The division is shit; I've certainly not argued otherwise. The Chargers talk way, way too much, and believe the hype more than they should, but by any assessment they're easily the class of that shitty division.

Last year's overall record is irrelevant. Merriman was out all year, they had the Hochuli game taken from them, and Tomlinson wasn't healthy all year. If anything is relevant from last year, it's that they finished with a 4-0 December and a win over the Colts in the playoffs before losing in Pittsburgh despite my presence.

I also don't think individual stats are a fair way of gauging how good someone is in football. There's only a certain # of yards to go around. Regardless of how well Chambers did or didn't play last year, he was their 4th option on offense, and you're just not going to put up big numbers as a 4th option.

Obviously he's not as good as he was 5 years ago, but with teams worrying about Gates, Tomlinson and Jackson, he'll have the opportunity to make some plays. He's solid, capable, pretty good. Definitely above mediocre in my book. I also prefer Floyd, but he hasn't proven he can stay on the field. If Floyd stays healthy, the Chargers WR's are excellent in my estimation. 3 huge targets including Gates, with a healthy Tomlinson and Sproles. I also, as i said, like Naanee a lot. They also have Buster davis, who was a first round pick in 07 but has barely played.

All of those WR except Chambers are improving, too, and Gates is in the prime of his career. I'm worried about the run blocking much much more than the RB.

This team, by the way, has won as many playoff games in 2 years under Norv (3) as they did in 9 years under Coryell, and as many as the team won between 1983-2006.

Your boy Marty, in case we've forgotten, won as many playoff games as Chargers coach as Charo did.

What's funny is that I actually think less of the Chargers overall than most people and virtually all of the media seems to. I see a lot more flaws.
WR has actually been a huge weakness of this team for 25 years, since Chandler and Joiner (and Jefferson) stopped playing, and I actually think this is the best group of WR they've had since 1982. So, it's funny that you'd choose to pick on that position, and that's why I feel compelled to defend my boys.

Oakland could just as easily win that division as SD. Now, I don't think they will, but there are some really nice pieces in place.
One of the reasons it's frustrating talking about football with you is that you state opinion as fact, and then get outraged and offended when I think your opinion is way off base and tell you so.

Oakland is 14-1 to win the West in vegas, SD is 1-5. If you believe that statement you wrote is true, you should put some money behind it.

Weird shit happens in the NFL, and nothing is impossible, but they can not "just as easily" win anything. They've lost 11 straight games 6+ years and have the same dysfunction. How can you talk about the Chargers not being proven and then say anything positive about the Raiders?

It's just impossible to talk about this stuff with you. I'm an idiot for liking the Bears and Vikings over the Packers even though that's how it went last year. I'm an idiot for liking the Texans to win their division since you think they're the worst team in their division, etc, etc. It's like last year's results and stats are the be all and end all of everything, except when you decide to ignore them.

You basically trash the Chargers position by position except for QB, talk about how Oakland could win the division, and then have the Chargers going 10-6?

If you're asking who i'd rather have this year, definitely Gates over Miller.

And my God, do you love to argue. no i don't. yes you do. no yes no yes no yes.

I'd like to hear how they can win 10 games with this schedule and still not impress you.

Their non-division games:

Baltimore, Miami, Philly, Washington, Cincy at home
Pittsburgh, Dallas, Giants, Tennessee, Cleveland on the road

This 'can't win outside the division' is pure horseshit that you've made up. They beat New England last year, beat the Colts in the playoffs and beat the Colts and the Titans twice each in 07, once regular season and once in the playoffs.

Why am i still here? This is Goodspeakian. You're arguing just to argue. Later.

Those obscure "stats" I'm citing, playoff wins and 'reaching the divisional playoffs' are just slightly more relevant than the idiotic rankings you like to cite, based only on total yards and not factoring in points.

I don't care whether you've been watching football for 75 years. You seem to think regular season record is more important than winning playoff games. That's idiotic.

Meaningless trivia. I love it. Winning playoff games is meaningless trivia. WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU? Winning playoff games IS THE ONLY THING THAT MATTERS.

They're the ONLY TEAM TO HAVE WON PLAYOFF GAMES THE LAST 2 YEARS? THAT'S NOT TRIVIA. ARE YOU FUCKING INSANE?

This isn't rocket science. They had a great regular season record in 06 against a weak schedule and lost in the divisional round. The next year they had a worse record against a tough schedule, won 2 playoff games and lost in the conference championship. Or, as you call it, year 1 of the downward trend.

Last year, again, since you seem to be missing this, ED HOCHULI COST THEM THE DENVER GAME. WITH THAT, THEY'RE 9-7. THAT'S 2 GAMES WORSE THAN THE PREVIOUS YEAR DESPITE THE LOSS OF THEIR BEST DEFENSIVE PLAYER BY FAR, AND AN INJURY TO THEIR BEST OFFENSIVE PLAYER. They had a shitty year. That's not a fucking trend. Again, they beat the Colts in the playoffs and reached the divisional round.

Good call on Toomer, by the way. That came from your years of experience, I imagine.

Chargers history:

1960-1979: 1 playoff win
1980-1982: 3 playoff wins
1983-1991: 0 playoff wins
1992-1994: 3 playoff wins
1995-2006: 0 playoff wins
2007, aka Downward Trend, year 1: 2 playoff wins
2008, aka Downward Trend, year 2: 1 playoff win

First time the Chargers have won playoff games in consecutive years since 1982.

Meaningless trivia. Seriously, who gives a fuck about playoff games? Playoffs? Playoffs?

I know it may not seem like it sometimes, but I actually occasionally step away from the computer. so I'm just seeing this last set of back and forths now, and I was in fact planning on telling young Borat to tone it down before getting any advice to that effect from the peanut gallery. so, yeah.

By leaving like Lane Kiffin did; and even then you get sued and badmouthed. Not that he doesn't create problems on his own....

Wow, I see you imps were busy last night; I've got my work cut out to catch up, although Noj should edit his comment to indicate the Raidazz lost to the Pats in the AFC playoffs, not the Super Bowl.

They also got jobbed against the Colts on a Sunday night nearly as badly as the Denver game. It wasn't the same as Houchuli subsequently owning up that he screwed up, but there were some horrible pass interference calls and non-calls that completely destroyed the Bolts chances in a game they should've won.

btw, are we all in agreement that, last season notwithstanding, the Broncos are gonna really really miss Shanahan?
