Vazquez-Marquez III was a classic. Cotto-Margarito was very good. So was Casamayor-Marquez. Hopkins-Pavlik was a great performance by Hopkins.

I'm going to be missing most of the fights this year, but Marquez-Diaz at the end of February should be great, worth the PPV price for anyone who wants to see a firefight. Margarito-Mosley might be compelling coming up. I could see Margarito taking Mosley too lightly and getting upset.

Pacquiao-Hatton is going to end with Hatton getting KTFO. I expect Mayweather to come back and fight Pacquiao later this year. That is the fight that this sport really needs: it will draw audiences and it will be very good.

I hope we see a Marquez - Pacquiao III at some point. I still have Marquez as the best P4P fighter in the game. I think he won both of their previous fights.

It was actually on regular HBO, and it was excellent. Very high action; I literally can't remember a single clinch or time that the ref needed to do anything. I didn't get to watch it until just now, so I already knew the result, but it was still very entertaining and highly recommended to any boxing fans who have HBO.

Marquez is one of my favorite fighters. He's my pick for the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world. It sucks that I can't watch this fight in Africa.

Watched "Thrilla in Manila" on HBO last night. Interesting (but not too surprising, really) that Smokin' Joe still apparently hates Ali's guts. Also interesting that Ali was apparently ready to give in at the beginning of the 15th round of the Manila fight, but Frazier's corner beat him to the punch, so to speak.

Funny to see Larry Holmes saying that Ali was not a skilled fighter.

Watched a re-run of Wright/Williams last night. If I heard correctly, Willims threw in excess of *1,000* punches over 12 rounds. Yikes.

He may be the best fighter in the sport, but almost everyone is afraid of him, and he's had very little mainstream exposure. He's sort of like Thomas Hearns but with less punching power and a better chin.

He's a punch-o-matic, no question about it. Good thing his chin is strong, because Wright caught him a few times coming in, despite the windmill of leather, but he just couldn't get enough on them to give it effect. Williams has incredible stamina and he moves his head, so maybe he's got nothing much to worry about.

I watched that fight. He's an incredibly active puncher, certainly. Not a very competitive fight.

Another up and comer this weekend; Juan Manuel Lopez, who beat down Gerry Penalosa before Freddy Roach threw in the towel after the ninth round. Penalosa was game, but he only landed the occasional hook, and ate all kinds of leather in the process from a larger fighter who had no issue with fighting in close. Lopez landed so many body blows that *I* was ready to fall to the ground and curl into the fetal position. Or open another beer. You know, whatever.

The news accounts of the Carl Froch-Jermain Taylor fight made it sound really good. Did anybody watch? I feel kind of bad for Taylor...

I'll watch it a week later on HBO or Showtime, whichever has it.

I can't even imagine a sporting event I'd be willing to spend $50 to see on TV, especially one that could suck and/or end in a minute.
Plus, I think Pacquiao wins without too much trouble. I would definitely watch it on HBO or Showtime, but I haven't paid for a fight since Tyson-Ruddock.

Pacquiao will probably win, but he's overrated. I thought he lost the last fight against Marquez. Then he beat up David Diaz and a totally worthless De La Hoya. In the meantime, Juan Manuel Marquez has knocked out Joel Casamayor and Juan Diaz, both legitimate champions, neither of whom had ever been stopped before.

If Marquez is able to score a fight against Floyd Mayweather, I think he wins. He's the best fighter on the planet and should be getting the paydays that Pacquiao is getting now. But HBO has been in the tank for Pacquiao for a very long time.

Also keep in mind that Pacquiao hasn't faced a real test since jumping up in weight. David Diaz was a token champion and De La Hoya would have been beaten by any live fighter of any weight class on that night. This fight will go a long way towards determining how good Pacquiao really is at the 140-lb level.
