I'll see if I can remember them all! The four players are all mostly in unison (or at least performing a similar type of activity) and always playing on the same instruments/type of material:

triangles
crotales, finger cymbals, small cymbals
regular suspended cymbals
tam-tams
stone and metal plates (both rubbed and struck)
bass drums (played normally and also rubbed with stones)
dried leaves
voice

Duration is 67 minutes.

I put up a a couple clips here, too:

If 2010 was Pisaro year, looks like 2011 is shaping up to be Frey year :)
I await Carlo Inderhees year with bated breath

this is great news.

nick, isn't this the piece you played in 2003 at ucsd? (iirc, you also played a radu malfatti piece at, like, two in the morning.) if so, i've been waiting to hear a recording of this for years. i absolutely loved it when i heard it.

Yup, the same. I've been trying to get a recording together of that Malfatti piece for years too but not living in the same city as Tucker has made it difficult.

Also, that Malfatti performance was where someone told me later that the person sitting in front of them in the audience passed a note that said, "This is fucking the audience." :)

amazing. that must have been pretty early on because near the end of the piece, i looked around to find that I and my companion were the only audience members still clearly awake. Some may have just been listening with their eyes closed, but there were a bunch who were knocked completely out.

I'd love to hear a recording of that one too. I remember really enjoying it.

the above review had to be far too short. the reality is: this cd is my favorite recording of 2011, so far.

Praise indeed! See what you mean about those mini-reviews.. I like this (the piece.. your review too!) but I haven't been as blown away by it as you. But on the strength of the above, I'll go and give it another listen. That's what reviews are for anyway, isn't it?
(Actually, if you held a gun to my head and asked me to choose between this and your LP Bill, I'd probably take the LP :) )

this piece was formative for me, having heard it performed years ago. it was the first non-malfatti wandelweiser music i'd ever heard (it hadn't occurred to me that those other names i'd read alongside his were worth checking out). i'd built it up so much in my mind in the intervening years and yet, upon hearing this recording, i've found that it's actually better than my memory of it.

(and thanks, dan).
