this place is $35 a night and a bus ride and/or walk away from the venue
http://maps.google.com/maps/place?cid=1 ... 9772738269
and it got this awesome review:
“Well I wasn't murdered in the 5 minutes that I was there.”
Milshire Hotel
We got into the lobby and two guys were in the reception enclosure area. One of the guys was wearing a heavy metal shirt that read psycho-something. For a double room it was only $40 so we figured we are only staying the night so no big deal, right? So we got a room key and got buzzed into the hall way and decided to take the stairs to the 4th floor (the elevator didn't look too safe). As we go up the stairs the combination of smells, weird decor, and sounds led me to believe that there wasn't something quite right about this place. We finally got to our floor and decided we should at least try to look at the room. The room was 408 so we got to the door and there was evidence of the door being kicked in at some point. After a few minutes we were finally able to get the door to open. It only took a look into the tiny room to realize that i wasn't wanting any part in a horror movie that night. The room had a tiny bed in it and the linens probably hadn't been washed in the last few months. The room was very dirty and there was a small sink to the right that had ants crawling in it. The room was also about 80 degrees and had very stale air. There was a fan but no AC. I would have not been able to sleep there, especially with my mind contemplating at what point the door was going to be kicked in again, me awaiting the same fate of some other poor traveler. I would have rather taken my chances sleeping on the street this particular evening.

I was talking to someone in Chicago & supposedly there is going to be a ton of rare collaborations...and a special surprise guest?
Maybe its Kevin Drumm or Fred Longberg-Holm? Just my guess.
I dont know but I bought my 4 day pass already...I hope that everyone else can get a chance to get tickets before it sells out.

I think LESS noise would be good for Chicago – perhaps I'd actually be able to listen to the birds!

??? Not sure the context on that...but it does not seem like this line up is too heavy with just noise if that is what your saying. It looks to me like there is some serious academic stuff on there. Plus, Astral Social Club!!!!!!! Whoa.Jason Brogan wrote:I think LESS noise would be good for Chicago – perhaps I'd actually be able to listen to the birds!
If your in Chicago & your not buying a ticket, your probably missing out. This is not gonna be a noise show in a loft or something, so I do not anticipate a bunch of gutter kids hanging around talking and smoking.

Looks like a really great festival. Congrats on putting something this ambitious together in Chicago!
You, of all people, should understand

On the troniks board it became official that Nmperign is performing, including Jason Lescalleet with them.
It also said Astral Social Club & Carlos Giffoni would be collaborating as well as TV Pow! with Keith Fullerton Whitman!
Holy shit though, a Nmperign set!

i wouldnt exactly count on either of those two to be playing... kevin has a whole number of reasons why he wouldnt want to play (but i still think he could be talked into it) and im almost positive neither of the promoters have ever seen FLH play...Kirk Rambis wrote:I was talking to someone in Chicago & supposedly there is going to be a ton of rare collaborations...and a special surprise guest?

seems like most of the "surprise" sets ive heard of are just combinations of individuals or groups already confirmed

The web site has added a few new acts:
Telecult Powers & Cornucopia collab
Crank Sturgeon & Dave Phillips collab
Astral Social Club & Carlos Giffoni collab
Ducktails [a member of NJ pop group Real Estate]
I hope I meet some new people in Chicago!

Crank w/ DP could be really good.
The rest of those just add to my growing feeling that I'm going to regret timing my Chicago visit to overlap this festival.
I dunno... maybe I'll be in a more receptive mood again by August. but right now most music is bumming me out. and Matt's taste is just leaning harder and harder on a psych trip that I'm way not into. I see maybe 18 acts on this almost 90 band lineup that I'm actually looking forward to seeing play.

It looks like a ton of new additions have been added on to this thing:
Burning Star Core
Raglani
The Family Chapter
Music Of The Sky Islands
Kevin Shields
Medicine Rocks
There is also some more collabs going on:
Government Alpha, Skin Graft & Jason Soliday
Ben Billington, Ryan Jewell & J Guy Laughlin
C Spencer Yeh, Tom Carter, & Meg Clixby
I also saw that Jason Crumer was added? Not sure about that, anyone else have any thoughts or insight?

Ottoman Black is an incredibly crafted album. Really fucking incredible. But Crumer mostly isn't that great. The one time I saw him live was especially bland. Keeping my hopes up though.

Re: Neon Marshmallow Music Fest 4 days 5 shows 2 stages 90 a
I won't be able to go to this, but just out of curiosity... how is the fest able to accommodate 15-20 performers/sets a night? Is everyone playing ultra short sets or something?
