Oh wow, a fest in Merida! To anybody in the Southeast US, you should definitely consider going. Flights to Cancun are always cheap (Atlanta to Cancun for less than $300), and then it's a 30 minute luxury bus ride to Merida for $20. Basically, for half the price of going to NYC, you can be in another country and see world class improvisers. Lodging in Merida is cheaper than a tank of gas, and there are lots of boutique hotels downtown ranging from quirky to luxurious ($40-$100+). Don't fuck with the familiar chain hotels because they are bullshit. Get something downtown. If you have balls, only book the first night online, bring cash, and go out and explore. You'll find your paradise. Oh, and check out the contemporary museum. It's rad.

Like David said, it's pretty cheap to come down here (flights from California are also around $300 round trip), and I'd be glad to provide recommendations for cheap hotels and hostels downtown. And like David also said, the contemporary arts museum is indeed pretty good and it will actually be one of our venues (it's been a venue for the fest for 5 consecutive years).
