LOM label

"Zvukolom" is the first release of the new experimental netlabel LOM. It is a selection of 14 tracks by 8 sound-artists, musicians and bands from Slovakia. The goal of this compilation was to introduce LOM and people associated with it to mark the direction of the label - we are mainly interested in marginal, not so well-known styles, playing with nontraditional aspects of sound aesthetics and music, "weird music" phenomenon, conceptual compositions, post-noise or total irrationality with squalls of unconsciousness.
On this compilation, you will find Unbending Intent - The Depth diver of mind and the Astronaut of sound fascinated by pareidolias, a post-modern chamber orchaostra Be Light Unto a Your Self, 1/x - a field bending and circuit recording duo quite well known on the Slovak scene, PRLN - a beekeeper of synths with a passion for sound, Mrkva - a fighter for the better tomorrow of noise, Andras E.G. Csefalvay - better known in visual art circles, but extraordinarily good post-folk songwriter, ::.: - a concrete forest grown tree climber, and Angakkut - a band consisting of various sound and visual artists, creating a strong combination of ambient, folk, blues and post-post-post-rock.

Lom is a new netlabel/plaform focusing especially on current experimental (post)music, sound art and internet publishable art, for example - interactive or Klingon (code) poetry, visual scripting or conceptual net-art. Our area of interest is Central and East Europe, i.e. a less known environment of experimenal arts.
Lom is financed on a voluntary basis and it was created as non-profit organisation. If you want to support us or support the artists featuring on the compilation you may for example buy this compilation for a voluntary fee. You can find more information on our website. In the future, we would also like to release charity releases that will enable us to support various social, human and animal rights organisations, which we as artists sympathize with.

new release on LOM!!! - MRKVA / BOLKA - S/T (2012)

Fellow mortal, we would like to introduce you to the best release ever released. Well… at least the best release from this week’s batch of Slovakian experimental electronic music releases. This life-changing split will prepare you for the inevitable near future when interactions with swarms of nanotech insects will be a common part of your daily life.

But the artificial high frequencies of little flapping wings are merely one facet of the whole. There is also a lot happening in the mid and lower spectrums which opens this album up to other interpretations. There are various possible evocative outcomes dependent on your listening setting. As a musick to play in the dark of your own home, this album can help channel your inner insect. But when listening outside of the security of your hive, these compositions can bring inanimate objects to life. Whether it is a warm drone of death embracing the last explosions of melting thoughts (Mrkva – Anders), or field recordings of walking barefoot through frozen grass (Bolka – Kostrbatá stopa), this album has much to offer for a tuned-in listener. And even if you can recognize the sound of water dripping into a sink (such a drag), it is still 120% better than that student movie about a girl who puts spaghetti into her panties.

Two Slovakian composers created this split as a first release for the Lom label (the 0th release was a compilation of various artists). Mrkva (Jonáš Gruska) is the mastermind behind the Lom label with a very wide array of activities (including, for instance, modular gardening and DIY electronics). Bolka (Matúš Kobolka) is known as the hot guy who is into glitchy microtonal compositions and whose cap has a very wide fanbase.

Post by ananas »

Nočné oscilácie pre jedného, “Nocturnal oscillations for one”, is a set of four compositions by Jonáš Gruska, recorded in the analog study of the Royal Conservatory in The Hague. Works have emerged from many evening studio meditations and are reflecting mainly intimate topics, such as loneliness and contrast of human being amongst machines. VooDooMan: Voices from Antidimension - OUT NOW!

Post by ananas »

This retrospective web-release is a journey through VooDooMan’s extensive discography with a mission to show the various outcomes of his creative endeavors. Although the selection covers the span of many years, there is a recognizable handwriting in the music – the recognizable (but sometimes difficult to read) handwriting of a doctor who is prescribing drugs to himself in very high dosages – voices from the “antidimensional fetishistic platform” processed through effects and echo, harsh noises, naive melodies, alien landscapes, hypnotic ambience… We would gladly recommend you to listen through everything VooDooMan has produced and find your own gems, but be warned that this might be a dangerous activity which could leave you with permanent damage.

Along with the web release, we are publishing a DVD, containing VooDooMan’s complete 9-album discography, radio podcasts and videos.

VooDooMan is an enfant terrible of the Slovakian underground electronic music scene. He has been composing songs since the early 90s and he has self-released 9 albums on his own label Oshipanah Records. He is an experimental auteur of the modern age – crafting his own instruments (creations such as a vacuum cleaner controlled by a sound card, disrupting and glitching his other hand-made instruments) and writing his own music software. He has not been left untouched by the outer world, however; in his oeuvre you might find traces of various inspirations – from the dark ambience of Coil through the post-industrial tensions of Download to the straight-forward songwriting of Travis. He has also broadcast his own pirate radio station and further developed his show “Radio Haluze” while working at Tlis radio.

Cave Art – Piña Colada (LOM, 2013)

Post by ananas »

Image

The album Piña Colada by Cave Art is a special blend of weird pop, DIY synths (you might have heard of their ‘Standuino’ synth), and live improvisation. Heavily influenced the by the pre-90′s Czech generation of ‘bastlers’ – people building electronics at home in the context of the Soviet regime, Cave Art continue that tradition by soldering their own electronic instruments. Once finished, they accompany their electronic creations with strange-looking guitars and free vocals – singing the story of a smuggler from the future. Painting on the walls of 21st century with less formalism and more of a ‘pure’ colour.

Piña Colada was recorded live on 31.5.2013 at Schaustelle, Pinakothek der Moderne, Munich, Germany.

Daniel Kordik - [Sy][ria] (LOM, 2013)

Post by ananas »

Image

“[Sy][ria] consists of 5 compositions based mainly on sound from field recordings made between April and May 2011 on various locations across Syria. These include Damascus, Maaloula, “Road 90″ to Palmyra, Deir ez-Zur, Aleppo and Hama and their surrounding areas. Due to security reasons when the government forces were trying to suppress the start of the uprising, I used only my Sony portable minidisc recorder with its internal microphone.

Based on the ongoing events in Syria that would eventually break the country down into pieces, I cut my initial field recordings into small fragments and re-arranged them into new compositions. At the end I decided to add two more tracks made on Vostok synthesiser.

Where images take us apart sounds can bring us together.

Rather than words and their meanings this recording is purely about the flow and intensity of the recorded sounds, as they were passing their present moment while touching the membrane of the microphone and then fading into the past. This recording is an amplification of those departed sounds and their reconfiguration as hope and imagination for a better future for Syrian people.

Money collected from the downloads will be used to help people who had to flee Syria due to the ongoing civil war. There are currently over 1 million children who are refugees of Syria with no schools to go to. I hope that this recording can generate some money for these children, so they do not become “a lost generation”.”
– Daniel Kordík

All received money will be donated to AVAAZ.

new release on LOM - András Cséfalvay

András Cséfalvay – Funeral the Musical and another tabletop opera (MC) (LOM, 2013)

András Cséfalvay is mostly known for his works in visual and conceptual art, but recently he started to show promise as a musician. Well, more then promise–we were truly hit in the [heart], when we received his newest work. Opera called “Funeral the Musical” is a set of intimate bedroom recordings telling us stories about worms, love and graveyards. Delicate, yet powerful voice, covered with harpsichordy-icing and synthesizery-cherries navigates us through the story with bravery and embarassing honesty at the same time.

“Funeral the Musical” is released on cassette and as a digital release. Cassetes contains one extra opera called “Granddialogue between Sauron and Saruman” and a cutout template with characters from the operas for further re-enacting of the stories.
