this is way nice (fields 6)

there was a very quiet, ~30 minute excerpt circulating on soulseek a couple weeks ago. it sounded like the latter part of the piece where you can hear a distant aircraft overhead (sort of a doppler effect).. it's a cruddy, muted excerpt (mp3)

very pleased upon receiving the disk to hear the (whole) music unfold, with its variety of brilliant colors and detail, at a healthy volume.

that sounds like a different fields have ears piece entirely, maybe one of the two on the Another Timbre disc (20:27 and 27:46 respectively).

"fields-have-ears-61.mp3" @ 0:27:08. not certain, but it sounded like the new one.

edit: apologies if it's inappropriate sharing this type of info in the thread. thought it odd that somebody would circulate a shoddy excerpt.

a bit of googling shows that it's a very early version of the piece as linked at the bottom of the page here:

very little to do with the final CD.

For those who might be interested, I've written about the background of the fields have ears series. (Hopefully before too long I can do another one on the hearing metal series.)

Yes, really interesting. Sparked all kinds of ideas for me. Thanks for sharing.

I'd always assumed the field bit of Fields Have Ears was Charles Olson derived so interesting to read otherwise.

i regret calling attention to it as it gave interesting context to the proper release. it's since been taken down, but i think it should have remained available. the recording/guitar quality recalled winning losers-era sentridoh, much to my delight.

I enjoyed reading this perspective on fields have ears (6) (GW007) by The Watchful Ear (i.e., Richard Pinnell).

bumping this thread to announce an end of the year sale on the seven Gravity Wave titles:

GW 001: ricefall (2)
GW 002: July Mountain: three versions
GW 003: close constellations and a drum on the ground
GW 004: asleep, street, pipes, tones
GW 005: Hearing Metal 2
GW 006: Hearing Metal 3
GW 007: fields have ears (6)

normally they are $14 each plus shipping, but from now through 12/31, they are on sale for only $11 each plus shipping, or $70 plus shipping if you order all seven together.

send me a note at erstrecs@aol.com and tell me which you'd like, and I'll get you a total price including shipping. thanks for reading!

A concert recording from complice gallery in Berlin has been posted. Next up will be a set of translations from Oswald Egger's Die ganze Zeit in anticipation of GW008.

008/009 are now available for preorder with lossless DL link upon payment and shipment of the physical items in a few weeks when they arrive, send me a mail at erstrecs@aol.com if interested or order via the PayPal link on the right side of the site.

I announced this earlier today on Facebook and got a handful of orders already, here's one very happy quick reaction:

"Even when viewed against the quality of his other works and the joy they've given me, Michael Pisaro's ‘The Middle of Life (Die ganze Zeit)’ is extraordinary, a music aflame with quiet incandescence. It’s so delicate and yet quite magnificent, its multilingual narration poised perfectly over the skein of tones, voice, piano and field recordings. An overwhelming, poetic masterpiece."-Brian Lavelle
