there's gotta be a thread already, though i couldn't find it..

looking to make about 100 (CD) copies, but not cdR. I'm curious, does anybody know if it's possible to get a 'blank' top-surface where you can see the 'cut' of information on top... it's something that i think was more popular decades ago.
also, what is the price difference, and quality difference between CD and CDR? Also, possible references? Sorry, i'm sure there's a more appropriate forum for this type of inquiry, though i'm thinking people here have experience.

regarding the top surface of the disc, it's possibly a cosmetic look, where the reflective surface is accentuated by a sectioning of the outer area against the inner 2/3 or so, of the disc.

i'm talking about a near-total lack of ink on the top surface.. also, curious about the cost of printing artist-info in the very inner ring of the disc.. is this expensive?

To my knowledge, plants will do this but the price is the same as buying 500 (because the glass master is almost all you're actually paying for--the media is so cheap it's almost free).

is a glass master of higher quality audio-wise, or is it mostly cosmetic?

They need to make it to duplicate the discs--it's the master the copies are made of.

I've done this and there was no extra charge incurred.

As far as I understand it, a CD from a glass master has more long term stability than a CDR as it doesn't have the exposed writing surface that you need for the burner to burn your tracks.

It's not really a difference in fidelity so much as a physical difference. All CD's have the potential to "rot" or bronze over time however.

i'm curious about printing ink on a jewel case cover.. is it more realistic to get a decal for the case cover, or are there services for printing on a jewel case?

I have a Fransisco Lopez disc from Stalplaat that has printing on the jewel case. So, it is possible to do this.

Nice. Those prices are pretty high, though. I pay just over mobineko's 100 unit price for 500 discs. Prices in Seoul may be low, though.
