Recommendations for a good sounding, cheap little PA?

I'm ditching my guitar amp and would like to get a little PA to do my prepared guitar/mixer feedback/tape collage stuff live. As long as it sounds good, has at least 4 inputs, is stereo, and is portable it should work for me. Thoughts? There are a lot of cheap Behringer-type PA setups that can be had for 400 dollars or so but I don't want to get something that sounds crap (like the cheap Behringer mixer I have). I don't need it to be much louder than my guitar amp, I just want something cleaner, stereo, and with a fuller frequency response, so sound quality is a lot more important than wattage... I was also considering just getting a couple bass amps and running them in stereo but I'd like to be able to accommodate other musicians should they wish to collaborate...
